So you've got Soul? Are you super bad as well?

Just what are you implying?

So here's the story...

My husband (I'll call him Bob), much like all you pinheads, thought the Soul a dumb car. He didn't have a ton of reasons for his opinion since he'd not done any further research on the car than look at the picture on the computer that I showed him. But, it was a Kia, it was square, it was small, blah, blah, blah.

So, we go look at cars and the Soul is the first I test drive. We were both immediately floored at the amount of passenger space in this little car - it was especially noticeable to Bob who's a pretty big guy.

My first thoughts of the car upon actually meeting it were along the lines of, "it's too much car. I can go smaller and pick up a mile or two more per gallon".

We went on and looked at a Honda Fit (but didn't test drive one), a Ford Focus, and the Hyundai Accent. Apparently the Hyundai Elantra is so popular the dealers can't keep on in stock ...even for a test drive (I'm not sure I believe that).

After I crammed Bob into some of these other small cars, and convinced him that the Soul was not my first pick - he was sold on it.

The pluses of the Soul besides it's roominess were it's clearance (more than either my Mazda or Bob's Focus), a slightly longer wheelbase and larger tires than most compacts (16 inches).

Also, the Asylum was not the only internet place I sought car advice. Customer reviews from a number of generic car sights were mostly all huge raves about the car.

I'm just not a fan of that style of car, but I'm glad you found something you like. I have an '03 Elantra, and it's held up really well despite somewhat heavy use (18k mi/yr).

Anyway, good luck with the new ride!

Itty-bitty cars have great big catastrophic accidents. No car that I ever drive will have less than a 50/50 shot at rolling away from a chance meeting with a rhinoceros.

Which means you and your passengers' bodies will absorb the force of the change in momentum... instead of the car's crumple zone safety-cushion outside of a roll cage.

Your heir can inherit your lovely unscratched car.

You're always cute when you don't know what the f'uck you're babbling about.

As far as the new car goes, congratulations, E. Now I know I don't have to worry about you killing me on the highway when you come to visit Minnesota.

For you Moe I'll only visit MN with the 4x4 Dodge PU with strapped on plow.

No really, this new car is a bit bigger than the old Mazda (For Sale btw).

Global economy means that the parts in a car are often made locally anyway regardless of the national origin of the company/brand.

I didn't really see that a summer or two ago when Flea was car shopping. The Japanese ones would list American manufactured bits on the sticker ("70% Japanese, 30% USA" all the way to "10% Japanese, 90% USA" or whatever) but the Hyundai's and Kia's were almost exclusively listed as "100% Korea" for both parts and assembly.

West San Francisco is too long to put on the label, though.

It could be worse, there are Amy Winehouse songs out there.
