A day late and a dollar short on that defense.

To be fair Ugly, it probably took him quite a while to come up with a defence that sophisticated.

That's actually his third "defense."

The frist was, "Yeah, I made that. I like to troll those sites like that sometimes. It's funny."

The second was, "A co-worker did that as a joke!!!"

And the third, "Joph photoshopped it."

I thought this was #4. I thought he slipped a "I clicked the wrong option" defense in there somewhere as well.

That would involve admitting he was wrong.

That's possible. I would actually be relieved if I forgot one of them.

Isn't that the defense endorsed by liberals everywhere these days?

I gave one from both political flavors, just to keep it fair.

are you working with the actual algorithms etc

Yes. I'm too lazy to go into much detail (but hey, I retain publishing rights, so there's always Gscholar in 5 years), but (very) basically, modified Fellegi-Sunter optimized for the particular data profile in question, which is pretty much completely lacking in any sort of "traditional" probabilistic key matching profile. I really do have a stack of signed NDAs about it, so I'm not going to go into it much more than that.

Most days, I'm amazed at how accurate it is. Most. Other days I'm amazed at how sophisticated of a pattern recognition engine the human brain is compared to 10 million in hardware.

I like that he said "a coworker did it" and "Joph Photoshopped it", then later said he deleted it.

Hi hi, my friends!

I've been groovy. Still happily married, still working, blah blah blah. I apparently work for the one mortgage company that didn't delve into the sub-prime tar pit. Yay! Damn you, spell checker, "yay" is SO a word.

I'm trying to stop watching the news as it's no end of distressing, but I can't help myself. It's like watching the person in the movie running down the tracks while the locomotive bears down on them and you want to scream at the screen "just turn off the tracks, you idiot!"

Exo, congrats on mastering the revolving doors. You had us all worried about you.

It sounds like the rest of you are doing fine too, which makes me happy.

I started working for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services last month. I already had the training I needed at my old job so after two weeks, I was was able to jump right in and start doing my job since I was doing similar work for a year as a private worker. I essentially review cases and determine if people are eligible for Medicaid, SNAP, and Family Planning Services and issue or deny them. It's a bit more complicated, but that's the gist.

Also, I'm saving to buy a newish car at some point this year, thinking 2005+ Jetta. Glad to hear the three of you are doing well.

Zombie-Nobby would have been quite a novelty, but...no hurry.

Paskil, going to work for the State of WI, atm, seems a bit punitive. I've switched my car shopping from Ford to Hyundai. The new Jetta's aren't getting such great reviews (I like brand new cars). I'm looking pretty seriously at the Elantra.
