I like British politics and general happenings quite a bit. It's like a somewhat surreal and nigh inconsequential version of US, erm, things. Nigh would be the operative word here.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/phone-hacking/8621797/Phone-hacking-families-of-war-dead-targeted-by-News-of-the-World.html

You can read the article yourself and get the gist of it. Two things worth pointing out, I think, is that this 150+ year old British paper is getting shut down by some convict. Our man Murdoch himself, in fact. I believe there was quite a bit of objection to his purchase of the paper among the UK public in the first place. Of course NOTW isn't the only paper doing this, The Guardian, The Mirror, The Independent and others have been implicated as well.

Most importantly, and what this article appears to obfuscate, is the police corruption. Apparently many of the numbers were provided to the papers by policemen. Also, Murdoch is apparently trying to buy out BSkyB, further consolidating his media empire.

Oh, ingerlund.

PS if there are any British posters around who've noticed an error here then feel free to correct, even though you people are clearly of questionable veracity. Perfide Britannia?

PPS I'm well aware of the difference between the UK, Britain and England. For all intents and purposes however, they don't really warrant solid differentiation.

If they were important, they'd be happening inside our borders.

To be fair what they did was a bit wrong. My dad reads the NotW. Well, he did. Refuses to buy it any more. Same for a large number of their clientèle, I'd expect.

Shame they did this thought, it's the most widely read English (language) newspaper worldwide.

So, News Corp. was where most of the world got their English Language news?

I knew my opinion of the rest of the world was accurate.

Out of curiosity, are there "pre-7/7" and "post-7/7" mentalities and ridiculous amounts of associated jingoism like the USA?

Seriously? You people have Fox News as your highest rated news network, and you want to judge the rest of the world? Smiley: laugh

Not really. We got over 7/7 on 8/7. (That's the 8th of July, not the 7th of August).

The joke was a play on the view of Fox News as somehow less credible than any other news outlet in the United States. Apparently you have still missed that. I'm sorry for you. Next time I will put it to music an wield an axe. Perhaps that will lend a bit of lubrication to your sense of humor.

"I'm a lumberjack and I think America is the best.
I also think those other countries are crap and
can't be relied upon for anything but equivocation
and appeasement in the new world order."

It'll be catchy, really.

As to American superiority, I never joke about that. I believe that this is the greatest country in the world. I also believe that this is proven daily by the millions of people who risk life and limb to put their toes on my soil. I also believe that people like you ought to be down on your knees with your tongues swirling my nether regions, because if not for me and my people you'd be speaking German.

You're welcome, you ungrateful prick.
