Then again, I thought it was amusing to post things like that when I was fourteen. Except that it would have been done ironically.

You're the kind of douchebag that has bad facial hair and drinks Pabst Blue Ribbon, but you do it "ironically", so it's cool.

Fucking idiot.

You mean a hipster, fren? Too indie for me, I only do mainstream things.

Something new would be nice.

Shame nothing this guy is offering is new.

Maybe you should indulge your urge to end it all.

Your inability form the sentence speaks for itself. I think you'll find "your better" is the correct usage.

"Your best" is probably a better usage when addressing a group of people, though it's not a common application of the rule.

I decided to respond to the most interesting thing said in the entire thread thus far, and I find grammar even less important than semantics.

Hey, Timelord's joined team ******. Maybe if you work really well together, you can figure out the aetiology of lung cancer... and earn yourselves a gold star! WOW! You'll have to share it but - hey! - isn't that the real meaning of friendship anyway?

Better is the comparative form. Although the general rule is better for two and best for three or more, this is a mildly archaic structure. The superlative would be used as "I am the best of/among you", without the possessive. The set phrase is "I am your better" because it compares the author/speaker to the reader/listener. Although it is hardly dispositive of the question, google the two phrases and note the lack of support for the "I am your best" structure.
#87REDACTED, Posted: Jul 09 2011 at 10:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm hardly an advocate of bad grammar, but I think the look and feel of the words when they're combined is more important. Possessives, superlatives, definites and so on are such a dreadfully dull thing, don't you find? Honestly, I can't remember if using 'best' was an oversight or intentional, but I like the way it turned out. I've been thinking lately of doing some form experiments with combining prose and poetry in a way that will likely rape the conventions of grammar, but after a lot of practice it may turn out okay.

I'm aware of your ambitions, but you do know that all of those writers to whom you aspire actually had purposes behind their writing, right? They weren't the inane rambles of an 18 year old boy on an Internet message board, desperately seeking affirmation.
#89REDACTED, Posted: Jul 09 2011 at 11:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Nope, I was totally unaware of that. And I'll have you know that I'm 20 and 9/10ths.

See here is the thing - you just chalked a grammar mistake up to being "poet-like" because you couldn't remember if you did it on purpose or not.

You are a attempting to cover your stupidity with the thinnest of veils, and most of us don't give a lone **** what you prefer.
#91REDACTED, Posted: Jul 10 2011 at 12:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Haha, here's the thing, actually. You're too stupid to take part in this dull sort of pissing contest.

Dull sort of pissing contest indeed.

The thing is, when you turn a phrase incorrectly it's called a grammar error.

But, being wrong burns the smallest **** in the pissing contest like the ******* clap.
You tried act like it didn't happen by pretending to be in some sort of self experiment, and you failed, and now you are just flailing around trying to **** on anyone that will pay attention to you.

If you must argue, take it up with someone that has the will to continue to expand posts they can't normally see. I'm taking my two shakes and zipping on out of there.

I like to think that in the future they will look back on our generation and mock us for our fixation with grammar, perhaps even before they've invented a language that's actually user-friendly.
#95REDACTED, Posted: Jul 10 2011 at 7:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) English is pretty easy, as far as languages go. For example, studies have shown that you can teach a person with down syndrome English but they won't be able to pick up Polish. Otherwise there's esperanto, which is designed to be easy to learn and master.

Relatively easy compared to other existing languages, but not absolutely easy, nor even relatively easy compared to an engineered language (like esperanto).
