Nice Thumb. Smiley: thumbsup

I only went to Greek festival this weekend. The fried food offerings were limited to little dough balls covered with honey and nuts (loukoumades).

I've had bacon-chocolate - only in candy bar form. I kind of liked it. I could taste the bacon but, yeah, the saltiness is what stood out.

how do you deepfry liquids?

Also although it isn't fair food - a local restaurant has deepfried mac and cheese sticks and they are glorious

Chocolate covered bacon: You couldn't taste the bacon at all. It was like chocolate with a bit of salt sprinkled on it.

There's a store 10 minutes down the road that carry chocolate bacon bars all the time. Xavier is hooked on them. I only like them when the chocolate bar has been sitting in the freezer for a bit. As for the girl scout cookies, I was glad they didnt have them available at the last fair. I love me some thin mints and could easily see myself getting addicted to those fried.

I will actually be going back to the fair this week so if I find any other goodies, I'll post. I'm going to get me some griled artichoke hearts, corn & sausage with peppers & onions at the very least.

I was wondering this same thing.

Also, deep fried pickles FTW

You either use said liquid in place of water when you're making deep fried pastries (like with Deep Fried Pepsi) and cook completely, or you take the dough and put the liquid around it similarly to a ravioli (like with Deep Fried Beer).

Edit: Or if you're intelligent, you put the dough around the liquid.

You mix whatever liquid with batter and fry the batter.

not technically fair food but semi-on topic and delicious (not my video):

Put the dough around the liquid you mean?

I guess that makes sense.

Yeah, strike that. Reverse it. I got struck with a case of dyslexia there for a minute.

I do enjoy the fried dough (any Canadian can likely guess the brand), funnelcakes, and deep fried ice cream from time to time.

They used to be better, although less consistent from store to store before they went with the premade batter.

I'll be heading down this weekend. Not sure what to try after looking at the list. It all looks so good. I'll probably just spend most of my time at the beer garden.

I have to go back to the Fair tonight. So I'm planning to bring home (at Ray's request) the deep fried beef jerky and the BBQ ribs. I'll surprise him with the salt water taffy.

I found that there are a few things I missed that I may need to take a gander at:

Cream cheese on a stick
Deep fried Snickers
Chocolate covered corn dog
Chocolate dipped pickle

There is one booth that is selling seafood (salmon burgers and mussels) but I just can't fathom eating seafood at the fair. Maybe fried clams at the most.

Mmmm fried clams.

Fried foods I eat are pretty limited to fried clams, clamcakes, and doughboys (fried dough).

Why are you trying to find healthy things at a fair? The whole point of going to a fair is to play rigged games for crappy prizes and eat the most unhealthy food on Earth. It's not like you're going to be eating like that all year, so you might as well enjoy it for the day.

I've had Twinkies an Oreos before. I thought both were kind of gross.
I can't remember what food show it was, but it was one about the awesomeness of Hamburgers. In the show the guy found a sushi stand that had a Hamburger Roll. It looked amazing and was fried Tempura style to keep it all together. It is on my list of deep-fry food to make soon.

Because my arteries were shrieking in protest and my stomach was rolling very uncomfortably every time I took a bite of some grease-pitted item.

Last night, the foods were awful. BBQ spare ribs were awful. The fries were awful. The beef kabob was tough and tasteless.

I honestly have to say that I can't wait for the Fair next year so I can try the deep fried frog legs that I missed this year.

I just ate lunch and revisited this thread, and now I have a stomach ache. Thanks for that.

As far as deep fried food, I've never understood the "Let's try it deep fried!" mentality that Americans seem to employ with practically every food these days. I'll stick with the old standbys - jalapeno poppers, cheese sticks, and for desert, delicious funnel cake.

I'm not one for fried fair foods beyond the funnel cake, but I cannot resist pork chop on a stick.

Roasted ear of corn is always win as well.

I just realized how epic it would be to have deep-fried Balut. I must get some Balut, deep fry it and post the pictures.
