Best Father's Day ever.

Okay, was the first one for me, but still.

I spent a good chunk of mine preparing for, or attending, a wake for my aunt. No sympathies necessary; I'd probably only seen her a dozen times since my parents got divorced when I was around 12 years old.

Flea got me a gaming controller so I joined 2007 and downloaded the Orange Box off Steam and played Portal. That was fun. Then Half-Life 2 which was pretty tedious going in. I'm totally gonna be this guy now.

I had planned to introduce Joph Jr. to the world of Axis & Allies (he likes playing Risk on his handheld) but it didn't arrive in time. I had planned that prior to finding out about the wake anyway.

Axis and Allies is one of my favourite games ever. Sad thing is, I've played it so many times, we've figured out ways to make it nearly impossible for the Axis to lose.

I got the 1942 version off Amazon which, judging from reviews, suffers from a physically smaller map (they squashed the map and put charts in the bottom) but benefits from a more balanced game between the Axis & Allied powers. It also introduces cruisers and artillery. It was only $29.95 so we'll see how it measures up. There's always eBay if I decide I can't live without the original 1980's game.

Yeah, I'm that guy, too. My game of choice for the past several years has been Battlefield 2, a 2005 game.

Oh, and I'm also this guy.

ps. FPS suck on console/controllers. Play it with mouse and keyboard like a real person.

I've always sucked at the mouse/KB thing and never pushed myself to get any better at it. I figure as long as I'm single-playering it, it ain't on no one but me anyway.

It surprises me every year to remember that he was born so close to 2.1. One of my guys at the office has a kid 2 weeks younger than 2.1, and that always surprises me too. Weird.
