Dude, you are the one that went all "kitchen sink" in the first place.
Please explain, as I fail to see how. I brought up everyday things that are overused because we are over dependent on them in their normal capacity. We drive when we could walk half a mile. We take a pill for any ache at all. Ok, the Internet was a poor and useless example.

A mobile phone was created so that people could have phone access anywhere. It's being used completely within the capacity for which it was designed. A TV is not. A laptop...that's stretching it in the context she used. A tablet? Nope, strike 3.

Now, if I'm missing something here, please explain it to me, as I'd prefer not to be ignorant of it.

Now who's playing gbaji?

It totally did.

I can't help myself here. I completely lack any restraint. You all keep biting, so I just keep egging it on.

It was completely Alma. I rewrote it a few times trying to not sound like that, but just couldn't do it. Obviously, better judgement said to just walk away and not post it, but I'm an addict. That's not an excuse, simply a fact.

That would've allowed me to take away a bit more self respect, were it true.

I don't know why this keeps coming up. We got along fine without other things as well, like the Internet, automobiles, Tylenol, etc... Doesn't change their importance or our dependency on them today.

You're right. Next time I go anywhere, I'm taking my phone, laptop, tablet and TV. Never know when I might need them!
I'm sorry, did you just go all gbaji on me and take things too far and blow it out of context?

Nope.
sh*t, I'm sorry Nads. I didn't read this properly the first time. I didn't realize you weren't being sarcastic and that you were actually agreeing with me and pointing out that we already do this, through our smart phones.

I feel like in order to continue this conversation, we should be texting.

I had a windows based smartphone in 2006/7 that didn't have a limit, so I'm sure that's probably standard in all smartphones.

Sure, you don't...

If you're being notified of an emergency via a cell phone call while you're at the movies...you've already missed it.

Yeaa.. good think no logical person thinks like that..

911: Chill out, it already happened.. we'll get there when we get there... *elevator music plays*

The house is burning down...here let me use my iphone fire-fighter app and put that out.

The thing is if there is a true emergency you will be found and notified. If you are the responsible party to some respond to some particular emergency - ie you are an on-call firefighter, you should not be at the movies.

People confuse emergencies with the need-to-know-right-now.

Yes, typically by getting a phone call. I understand you yearn for the olden days, where we had to dispatch riders on horseback to track you down all over town, but why must you keep insisting on taking a technological step backwards?

No, I yearn for the days when everyone didn't think that they were going to save the earth with their cell phones.

I go to the movies without a cell phone. I go shopping. I even go to bed at night knowing my cell phone battery is uncharged. OMG!!! Lots of people do to. No one has died. No one has gone bankrupt and no babies were born with devil horns because someone didn't pick up their cell call.

Tell me, what emergency phone call are you going to receive while you are at the theater that you'll be able to change the outcome of?

The other day, my mother had to go to the emergency room and I got a phone call regarding it. Did me showing up change the results of it? No. Did me showing up while she was there put her at ease? Yes. Fuck you and your enjoyment at a movie theatre if me taking a phone call results in me being able to put my mother at ease in a stressful and scary situation.

If you're at the theater and have someone watching your children, I would hope you gave them the name of the theater as well as your cell phone #. A babysitter should to instructed to only call if it was an emergency and then contact the theater also so someone can be ready to assist you if needed.

I never had a emergency happen while at the movies, but there have been times someone had to reach me right away to let me know my parents had been admitted to the hospital or died. I didn't own a cell phone when my mom was alive, so family called my home phone or someplace they knew I was likely to be.

I did miss one call from my brother, by 15 minutes when they were trying to let me know my mom had gone home to die. They knew only that I was on my way to Philly for the 2001 World SF/Fantasy Convention and the name of my hotel. They then waited until my mom died 3 days later to call the hotel and reach me at 7:30 in the morning. All I could do was pack my bags and have Jonwin drive me back home to be with my family. Mom and Dad had told me to go ahead with my plans to attend the Convention, but I wish I had gotten that first call, so I could have seen her one last time before she went into a coma.

When my family got word of my father's death, my daughter call the center I attend 3 days a week and sent her boyfriend who just happen to be down the street to pick me up. I had a cell phone then, but it wouldn't have been a good idea to let me know through a call directly to me at the time. Calling the center let them prepare me in private for the news of my father's dealth. I can't imagine what it would be like if I got a text saying a relative died while watching a movie.

For both times my parents died I reacted to the news with a loud cry of grief. Something that truly would have interrupted your movie viewing pleasure.

+1 rambling to add nothing in reality but be annoying.

I'm glad you could be there for your mom Ugly. And modern technology is wonderful in that we can be in touch with loved ones in mere moments almost anytime and from anywhere. I never said otherwise.

That wasn't a personal fuck you, but in general. I'm glad however, that you took the time to send one personally to me. You know just how to make my day. Like it wasn't going wonderfully enough already with that sun shinning out there, you just went and made it extra special.

Thanks Elinda. Love right back at ya.
