The video taken by another student in the class shows 64-year-old Sandra Hadsock clearly hit the male student several times.

Police say Hadsock was likely acting in self-defense after the teenager, who towered over her, allegedly called her obscene names and backed her against a wall.

Hernando County school officials may still opt to dole out its own punishment for potential policy and ethics violations.

The student was suspended following the incident.

Last year students gave Hadsock the school's Teacher of The Year award


I'm embarrassed for the kid getting jacked in the face by a 64 year old, especially since she missed the first time. I think she was in the right for hitting him. He was cornering her and clearing screaming at her in the face. I would probably do the same thing if someone did that to me.

Misleading title is misleading. Should have been "64 year old teacher defends herself against attacking student; attack caught on cell phone."

Also, this story is kinda old down here. It happened in mid-May.

That's true. I think it's bigger now because the investigation is over and the police declared no charges would be pressed.

Kid completely deserved it. Kudos to the teacher. I wish someone had also punched the girl in the background who screamed "You can't hit him!"

While I don't really think the teacher was right, the student did have it coming. Can't disagree with how the case was handled.

This shows just how sad of a state things have gotten. I have to babysit Juvenile fellons and we can't swear, threaten or hit them. If we do they fire us. On the other side of the coin. They can swear, threaten and hit staff and a day latter or less they are back on the dorm for you to deal with again.

I think corporal punishment should be allowed. I don't think a teacher even needs to provide a solid reason as to why. "I felt like it" should be enough.

Why should we pay them more when we can just let them take out their frustrations on the students? I don't think a teacher should get paid more to put up with your child. And if my child's the one acting up, smack him.
