Why doesn't the president get to take the day off like every other American? When's the last time anyone actually did anything remotely memorial on Memorial Day, other than watching old John Wayne war movies?
Um. Every year. People in the military and their families often take time on Memorial day to visit a military cemetery, lay a wreath, or otherwise take part in the memorial services that the day is supposed to be about.
Not me or anyone in my family. And we come from military.
And? The president should be setting an example for everyone, not just those who view memorial day as nothing more than a day off from work. Just because it's not as important to you, doesn't mean it's not important to anyone else. Nowhere did I say that every single military person and their families engage in such things. But many do.
The question I was answering was "When's the last time
anyone actually did anything remotely memorial on Memorial Day?". Not "everyone". Anyone. So unless you're going to defend the absurd notion that not a single person in the entire US spends the day honoring and remembering the fallen, then the question asked is clearly BS.
