I took my wife and daughter to a waterpark. As I didn't sacrifice anything and using this thread's logic, I insulted myself apparently.

Interesting... I can see both ways on this..

I don't think playing golf is necessarily a bad thing, but not doing some political attendance or speech to honor the troops (if that is indeed the case) is a bad thing. He can just as easily do both. Now, this is a game of politics and the reality is, no matter what he does or doesn't do, the people who don't like him will always have something negative to say.

For example, him giving a speech could have just as easily be interpreted as "he really doesn't care, because if he did, he would just pull the troops out and end the war".

You realize that he did do memorial stuff as well as playing golf? Seeing as it was mentioned in this very thread.

It's mind boggling that you think this. You yourself listed other activities he did yesterday. If he didn't play golf, you'd complain that he wasn't reading the memoirs of a fallen soldier before going to sleep at night. Get off your high horse.

No, I wouldn't. That's a wonderful straw man you've built up there though.
Sorry, should have clarified "If Obama's bedside reading was reported." I wouldn't expect you to make up stuff, just to parrot it Smiley: nod

#34gbaji, Posted: May 31 2011 at 3:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) What part of any of my responses made you suspect that I *didn't* realize this? The point is that the activity is inappropriate for him to engage in on memorial day. It's like a husband justifying going to a strip club in the afternoon of his wedding anniversary because he gave his wife a gift that morning and plans to take her out to dinner later that night. How exactly does that fly?

Probably the part where he quoted and was responding to Alma, tardnut. So frothed up with hysterical Obama-hatred that you can't read any more?

Funny that you didn't choose to say "going golfing". Making sure to lay the hyperbole on a bit thick to justify that indignation?

Um. Every year. People in the military and their families often take time on Memorial day to visit a military cemetery, lay a wreath, or otherwise take part in the memorial services that the day is supposed to be about.

Not me or anyone in my family. And we come from military.

And? The president should be setting an example for everyone, not just those who view memorial day as nothing more than a day off from work. Just because it's not as important to you, doesn't mean it's not important to anyone else. Nowhere did I say that every single military person and their families engage in such things. But many do.

The question I was answering was "When's the last time anyone actually did anything remotely memorial on Memorial Day?". Not "everyone". Anyone. So unless you're going to defend the absurd notion that not a single person in the entire US spends the day honoring and remembering the fallen, then the question asked is clearly BS.

And Samira is Joph. Blah blah. The assertion is equally irrelevant no matter who it's applied to, isn't it? No one has said that he failed to do anything Memorial-like yesterday. The argument is that it's particularly disrespectful to do something so "un-memorial-like" as playing golf. Spending the day with your family and loved one's is a good way to spend the day. Going off to play a round of golf just isn't.

You're the one pretending that giving up a hobby for any amount of time makes you more respectful to soldiers that have died and veterans. Then again, you're also pretending to know anything about veterans, so I probably shouldn't be too surprised at how wrong you are.

No, it's not, because Alma clearly didn't know that he visited the tomb before playing golf.
