I can't drink 'em, but I'd be happy to pour them down your gullet until they had their desired effect.

People drink beer for refreshment? I thought that was something that only happened in Coors Light commercials.

I'm sorry that you have such a limited palate, but don't worry, it only makes you a bit less of a man.

I like stouts as well though.

I have to say, it's damned tough to find a good one here. Everyone raves about Samuel Smith's, but I just don't see what's supposed to be so special about it.

I've yet to try a stout that I didn't like, and I like them more than most of the other beers I've tried. Of course, I haven't tried that many. Mostly just microbrews from local restaurants. Any stout recommendations? Excluding Guinness, already had that (and it's very good).

I like Stir Stick Stout, but that's a local brewery, so I doubt you'd be able to get it. I'll do a beer trade with you if you want though.

The best stouts are all locally available, from-the-tap. Same as any kind of beer, really, but it seems doubly true for stouts...they don't keep well at all.

Otherwise, Samuel Smith's oatmeal stout is oft said to be the best nationally available one. Personally, I find it to be pretty run-of-the-mill...great compared to other beers, not so high on my list of stouts. Rogue has some solid ones, if you happen to get them, as does Arrogant *******. Guinness has a special stout (or had...not sure if they still make it) that's worth a taste if you like the regular one.

I'd personally recommend Young's Double Chocolate stout. Comes in a purple and orange can (stouts always taste better from the can, in my experience). It's a little pricey, and definitely more of a gourmet beer than a Sunday BBQ one, but it's pretty damned good.

Now, the best souts that I've had, period? The Street Brawler Oatmeal Stout, at the Pearl Street Brewery, in Buffalo, NY, takes the cake. My favorite beer, hands down. Second best would be the Steelworker's Oatmeal Stout, at Brewworks, in Bethlehem, PA. If you ever happen to find yourself in those areas, definitely check 'em out.

PS: You know what's also great about stouts? The badass names. With a name like "Street Brawler", you know it'll put some hair on your chest.

Drinking Old Style or PBR nowadays makes you a hipster-indie-douchebag, actually.

I once spent a summer teaching my twenty-year-old friend how to drink cases of PBR, in preparation for his birthday at college. He is (or was) a bit of a hipster, not so much a douchebag, but he still passed out that night.
