Indeed, AMAZING!
And so familiar too, in 5 minutes of googling I found 61 companies to choose from for my basic insurance and every single one of them costs less than €100/month. The only difference being that I don't have the option to not pay for insurance. But really, I'll take that over not being able to afford insurance any day.
What're the deductibles and copays?

Wait, you're not American. Derp, Euros.

I'm just wondering what varus would do if he were in Belki's place. Just suffer and smile because he just made such a huge sacrifice to prove a point?

Realistically, I'm sure the seven to twenty minutes would have made a difference in their survival.

Two patients died after being left waiting in ambulances outside an over-stretched hospital.

The patients, believed to have been in their 80s, couldn’t get into the Royal Oldham Hospital for seven and 20 minutes respectively.

They were assessed by ambulance crews as ‘very sick’ and were both suspected of having suffered heart attacks

It is understood neither actually had suffered a heart attack by the time they were admitted – although both later died at the hospital. One died in the resuscitation unit the following day and the other three days after being admitted to a ward.

Of course had Varus bothered to read the article he wouldn't have quoted it.

It doesn't look very dubious.

Given that English is my second language and I'm not very familiar with your insurance system I'm not entirely sure what copays and deductibles are.
But basically there's a standard €170/year at your own risk, meaning that's what you have to pay for yourself before the insurance starts paying out.

That's pretty much what a deductible is. It's your obligation to the bill(s), usually on an annual basis. If you have a $1,000 deductible and break your leg, you need to pay the first $1,000 and then your insurance picks up the remainder.

Sort of related is the co-pay which is your obligation for things such as doctor's visits. So you might visit the doctor and still have to shell out your $25 co-pay as opposed to having to pay $1,000 worth of general doctor's bills before insurance will kick in.

Ah, in that case we have a standard €170 deductible which you can increase to €500 or so to lower your monthly payments.
And as far as I'm aware there's only a copay for a few things, depending on what coverage you have.

Actually the deductible in Germany is a lot more complicated than that.

For each quarter, the first claim to each of A&E visits, dentistry and other medical services costs you €10. Across a year, you have to pay up to €280 in hospital bills, which means 28 days because for each day of hospitalisation anything beyond €10 is paid for by the health insurance companies.

Medications are between €5 and €10 usually, whatever is closest to 10% of the total cost, the rest gets paid for by your health insurance.

And the best thing is, once your medical bills exceed 2% (1% for the chronically ill) of your yearly income, you don't have to pay anything on top of insurance cost anymore! For me that was something silly like €85 the year I claimed it.

Yeah, you're not reading that right.

Quote:
A large sum might be saved in the United States if administrative costs
could be trimmed by implementing a Canadian-style health care system.

Might is the key word, and won't is the proper one. American bureaucracy is much worse than Canadian.

No, its the right answer. It works.

I don't care if it does or doesn't. Cost of healthcare is irrelevant to me. Knowing that everyone, and more specifically that I'm covered should my world bottom out, is all that matters from my perspective.

You should compare the US to Belgium then, Belgians have bureaucracy in two languages so it's probably twice as bad as most places.
