White not going to be fake anymoreFollow

They promise;

Quote:
The White House said it is ending its long-running practice of having presidents re-enact televised speeches for news photographers following major addresses to the country, a little-known arrangement that fed suggestions of fakery when Barack Obama announced the death of Osama bin Laden.

I think Varus is trying to congratulate our president for ending this 60+ year practice. I agree, Varus, Obama truly is a great president and it's swell to hear you say so.

The story itself reminded me of The King's Speech where a member of the royal family would give a radio address at some spartan table/mic/radio set-up and then move to a fancy desk for the "official" photos of him giving the speech.

I originally thought the thread was going to be about the national reduction of white people pretending to be black.

I think Varus was longing for an end to vapid commercialism among America's white middle-upper class teens. He saw Mean Girls the other night and it really touched him.

Its still a process you haven't even began approaching, so I don't feel nearly as bad.

Are you?

Am I surprised that they'd publicly end a long-standing practice? I guess not. They could have ended it without notice and I guess everyone in the nation who isn't a professional media photographer wouldn't know the difference anyway.

Slow news day?

Long standing practice for the current administration.

Only if Obama's been in office since Truman.

I was just curious why now? Obviously the Obama administration is having trust issues with the american people if they have to scream at the top of their lungs that they're not going to fake photo's anymore.

"Scream at the top of their lungs"? You're a silly little monkey :)

So what you want is the government to continue lying to the American people, like it has for the last sixty plus years.

So wait... the President would give a speech. And later photographers would want images of that speech, but didn't take them during. So they instead have the President stand up at a duplicated podium and the photographer would snap a few shots to have an image to go with the story of the speech.

They are ending this practice, and it's newsworthy?, and it's being spun by Varus as an evil Obama/Liberal/Babykiller plot?

Pretty much.

Given that the speech itself was televised, I don't really see the issue with a few posed "class photos" but I don't see a reason to be upset about ending the practice either. It's a non-story.

Its a push back from a Reuters photographers blogging about how he took pictures of Obama reenacting walking down the aisle and the first few seconds of the speech for the photographers. If you'd have read the sto-- oh, right. Don't read or fact check.

I'd think you'd be more mad at the administration telling the photographers to either get it right the first time around or forget it, and how the previous action was a courtesy to allow the media to get the best possible pictures.
