How much will you pay for a cup of coffee?Follow

There was another coffee price horror-story this morning on the news (rise in coffee prices was big 'marketplace' news just last fall). The heavy hitting countries (India, China) are getting addicted to the stuff causing an increase in demand. Simultaneoulsy crops are consistantly coming up short. Experts are suggesting that global climate change may be responsible and that we're reaching peak production levels.



Story

I stop nearly every morning on my way to work for coffee - I pay between 1.75-2.00 for a mediumish cup of quality coffee (locally roasted and brewed strong). I also just bought myself one of them Not-A-Paper-Cup double-walled porcelain travel mugs, thinking I should be trying to cut back on this habit of convenience.

The coffee girl this morning mentioned they'd gotten a notice of warning about prices from their bean supplier.

I'm thinking two bucks is kind of my limit for daily coffee, though I'd certainly pay more for an occasional, needy cup of coffee when out-on-the-town or traveling or whatever.

Other than that, it all depends on how desperate I am for coffee.

I don't drink much coffee anymore. The occasional cup now and then. Quite content with a tea as well, not that I drink that all that often. I'll usually pay up to $3 with no complaint although, typically it's less than $2. Coffee goes up too much, I'll just drink more tea, until it drives up as well. And none of the chamomile or green tea. Tea's ***** enough without going that extra step.

Nothing, can't stand the muck.

I don't really like coke much, either, but if I need caffiene badly then I'll use that instead.

Why dork around making my own when I can get a large cup for a trivial amount of money?

Of course, I drink the paint thinner that comes out of the machine at work so my standards are probably lower.

because in the long run I can purchase even more coffee with the money I saved from not paying so much for a tiny cup of joe!!!! =)

I wouldn't call a large McD's cup "tiny" but, again, different standards :D

McDonalds actually sells a decent cup of coffee these days. They're using arabica beans. These particularly are the ones getting so expensive (versus the robusta beans that are not as impacted by the weather). We'll see how long their $1.00 for any size lasts. I recently had a McDonalds coffee from a travel plaza somewhere on I-95. They didnt offer me the one-dollar deal.

Considering at $1, they still make a profit and the reason for it at that price is to drive business away from coffee shops and to them during breakfast hours, I imagine it'll stay that way so long as they keep getting a decent increase in market share during that period.

It depends on coffee, of course. I get a huge coffee every school morning and pay around 1.50. I'm one of the fools that will pay for Starbucks, though that's usually on a rare occasion that I'm with friends and we decide to go "get coffee." "Getting coffee" is different from "injecting caffeine."

I go to a small hole in the wall deli for a dollar cup during my morning work out. I don't think I'd spend more than two bucks. Then again, I've yet to find the appeal of Starbucks.

It could be me or the Starbucks in the Netherlands but when I tried it the coffee was mediocre at best and expensive to boot. I guess you'd go to Starbucks for the special flavoured coffee or something but they failed at making an ordinary cappuccino.
