I recently found out that one of the former female cadets I went to school with married our Master Sergeant shortly after he retired. He is at least twice her age. The guy is "hard" on the outside but is definitely a "nice guy", so it wasn't as disturbing. There were jokes about him having a crush on her, I guess they were true after all.

Most of the other stories "appear" to be old horny guys praying on young and insecure women. I know that isn't always the case, but it often comes off that way.

For the record, and I know you weren't talking about my story specifically, but when this happened, the teacher was only 23 or so, and the student 17. That's not too bad.

I think your comment about it disgusting you with the old guy/younger woman thing is a common sentiment, but I also think a lot of it has to do with how society views it. I, personally, wouldn't be interested in a relationship like that. Having lived through losing a boyfriend once, I can't imagine marrying a guy knowing that, assuming we both die "of old age," he's going to be dying years before me and I'll have to deal with that loss all over again. That, and I've never met a man that old that had similar interests as I do... so there's that, too.

I was telling my husband the other day how a lot of times, it seems like unless a woman gets in a relationship with a man her own age, she's viewed negatively. Younger women who marry much older men are seen as gold diggers. Older women who get involved with much younger men are seen as cougars, and I don't believe that term is used in a positive way the majority of the time. But we don't have these little terms for men who seek a partner outside of their age group.

I guess we do have the "sugar daddies" and "sugar mamas."

What "frustration"? I wasn't the one crying "Oh eff off!" after declaring an explanation while shortly being proven wrong. I know you want to try to stick up for her, but it's a lost cause. You can not logically argue against defining the terms "fact" and "Theory" in a debate about facts and theories.

Hrm? People regularly refer to older men as "dirty old men" or "cradle robbers" or good ole fashioned "perverts" for coveting younger women. Sure, movie stars and the like get away with it but if you're a 55 year old dude at a bar who hits on the 25 year olds, it's not viewed as generously.

Death is the biggest thing for me. I wouldn't want someone to die decades before me unless it's around 80. As for the names for old men, I always thought they were called "dirty old men".

Oh, uh. I mean, those are considered good things, though... right? Yeah, I got nothin'. I'm wrong.

Personally, I don't really see how it's a positive thing at all, really. But that's just the feminist in me.

It just seems sort of demeaning to me. But in the grand scheme of things, it's not something I get too upset about.

Really? I have, usually as an implication of promiscuity (and not in the "Woohoo, now I can get laid" sort of way) and the idea of some leathery old chain-smoking broad dressed like a 25 year old New Jersey hooker and trying to pick up some young piece of meat.

Neutrally, you used to have MILF as a passive term for "Hot older woman" back when it was actually understood to mean the mother of a sexually mature young man and not a generic term slapped on every 22 year old with an infant.

Honestly, sometimes I think the best part of being American is being able to offhandedly dismiss anything that any foreigner says with a non sequitur.

This...

****** and whores aren't included as cougars. I always interpreted cougars as being attractive older women who don't necessarily look their age.

My SO is eight years younger than me, but also very mature and accomplished for her age. What is that formula for creepiness? I think it's (your age)/2+7= how young you can date before it's creepy.

I have heard the age/2 +7 formula before. I think it is pretty decent because it at least takes into account the fact that as you get older, the difference in maturity level between people of different ages tends to become compressed in the later years.

While a 60 year old dating a 37 year old seems a little odd for me, in my late 20s, to contemplate, chances are if a 37 year old dates a 60 year old, they are old enough to know whether that is the right fit for them.

I heard that also. Age means less and less as you get older. 37 and 45 don't sound as bad as 21 and 29.
