Big news story, Epsilon got hacked and information has been accessed. Normally I'd just ignore this, but as of today, I have received FOUR emails regarding my safety since sites I have been on used Epsilon... but I have not received any more spam than normal, so I am not really worried, just irritated.

How many did you get so far?

That just means that they took your email address, but the company doesn't care enough to tell you.

I didn't get one from best buy, and I have a rewards zone account, no i'm not sure whether they just haven't bothered to tell me, or they didn't get my info.

From what I've heard, Epsilon isn't telling which companies had info jacked, let alone which email addresses from those companies. I doubt if Best Buy knows who got hit at this point.

Don't seem to have gotten anything, but I have been getting 4-at-a-time Delivery Notice Failure emails the last three days on my spam mail account (which I never send anything on).

Nothing here. I don't really surf or have any connection to the sites they mentioned.

Uh, I hope you've scanned your computer/changed your email password. I had my gmail account hacked at the end of last year - no idea how, my computer was clean - but yeah, basically all they did was spam my address list. It was a poor hack because gmail caught all the emails and none of them were delivered even, but still, if strange things are being created in your inbox you at least need to look into it and not just think "Hm, this is odd."

You guys should honestly be worried.

I've worked with Epsilon in the past and have had to deal with their API. They're a big fan of sending clear text credentials over the wire. Sure it's SSL, but anyone who knows the API endpoint can query it and get the creds.

If you're a fan of password reuse, I'd change any passwords that might have been used for Epsilon based things.

I've gotten one from Best Buy. Thankfully haven't gotten anything from anything that isn't a throwaway email.

One interesting fact about Epsilon: One of their main data servers is called "Internet".

Not joking, I've seen it referenced in API crash errors. (which are named "workerbee errors" in the resulting dump text)

They're pretty funny overall.

Also, be wary if you have ever ordered Pizza Hut over the web as they handle their customer database too.

Super fun.

Huh, out of nowhere I have been getting emails in my spam folder from a few addresses I've never seen before. Bestbuy sent me an email informing me that epsilon had been cracked, but that's all I've gotten from them. My only spam has been from what appear to be personal addresses (that couldn't be any clearer about the fact that I shouldn't click them).

So, assuming they are related, 5 or 6.

Oddly enough, I hadn't even noticed that. My mind automatically corrected it to "Have."
