I know most of the surveys we get aren't posted in here, but if you guys get a chance, take a look at the following thread and provide any feedback you might have.

I know we all like to ***** about surveys, but is it really worth creating and enforcing rules over? If people don't want to do them, then they don't have to.

That's fine. Move them from the games forums to =28. Sure, OOT will *****, but if they don't move it there, they'll all just ***** about something else anyway so nothing will change.

As someone who has had to conduct a fair number of surveys, I think some of the proposed rules are good, some are silly, and some are just going to lead to a false sense of security. I think you'd be best off having a separate "Academic Surveys" forum for surveys. The email to you or Darq is a good idea. Rather than just a university email address, have them send a copy of the IRB approval (which would be required for any student working with human subjects). It will also include the name and contact information of their faculty advisor. You could then put a disclaimer at the top of the forum stating that participation is at your own risk.

The restriction to once ever x days and the restriction that one must be a member or donate to charity is putting a barrier to someone collecting data for education purposes...possibly the best data for their project and forcing them to get less relevant data where they are able to....that how we get ****** survey results and studies that come out saying that all gamers are furries because the only forum that let them gather data was a furry forum...know what I mean?

Probably shouldn't be doing their homework online, then. Just the very fact that a lot of people are going to give shit answers just to fuck with the survey should be obvious enough. I can't imagine most of these surveys being done by anyone out of high school, if only for the reason that I can't imagine any school would take online surveys serious.

Many survey courses allow for online surveys...especially when you're attempting to gather data from an online population (for example, players of online video games). You're not going to get much of a sample if you're just snowballing from people you know. Additionally, most survey courses are teaching HOW to conduct a survey without much real attention to the results. They want to see that you can gather and analyze data (preferably very large amounts) and draw conclusions from that data while identifying the limitations of your sample and your research method. Nevertheless, it's nice if the data is at least gathered from a somewhat appropriate sample.

Colleges utilizing online surveys include Harvard, MIT, etc, etc...it's a brave new world out here...
