That's the thing about a tsunami, though - it moves almost straight in, with no wave roll.

Here's the wave moving across SF Bay, five thousand miles later. You can see the pattern pretty clearly.

That's a pretty amazing shot!

I heard from my cousin in Hawaii that damage was minimal, although in true condescending fashion she did make fun of the people on the beach waiting for it to come. Oh, and those on surfboards. And liberals. She's my crazy conservative cousin for a reason, after all Smiley: lol

We had surfers in San Diego waiting for the surf surge. One of the guys in my building at work said "Longest damn ride I ever had." Barely anyone worked on Friday because they were all surfing.

I really miss my board.

I'm supposed to be going to Niigata this July for a conference. I wonder how the area will look by then.

Niigata should be fairly fine by then, as that prefecture was spared from most of the damaging effects of the earthquake. However, they may still have rolling blackouts during July due to Eastern Japan losing about 27% of its power generation.

If the power shortage isn't going to get worse with all the nuclear power plants in trouble.

I'm supposed to be in Tokyo at the end of May for a vacation. We were thinking of seeing if we could spend a day helping clean up somewhere or something. No idea how feasible that idea is, but it sounded good at the time.

I have a family friend that I feel is my fourth Daughter on the West side of Japan, who has a bag packed just in case she has to evacuate suddenly. She grew up in Baltimore, where she worst quake we get is like a truck driving by your house.

The quake was 5.0 where she lives and she can't get use to the aftershocks. I went though a 6.2 while living in CA and it took me years living back on the east coast to not be constantly on edge, when I watch news video of quakes out west.
