Didn't watch the Oscars, but ran into them, so to speak. Some friends and I went to go see Rock of Ages at the Pantages Saturday night. Had no clue when we bought the tickets that it was the night before the Oscars (which in retrospect explains why it was so hard to buy decent seats). There were a hell of a lot of limos parked out front, and they were already cordoning off sections of Hollywood south of Hollywood and North of Sunset when the show got out. Didn't stick around to see who was getting into them, partly because that's not my thing at all, but mostly because it was freaking freezing.
It did make our breakfast plans "interesting", since our big plan was to go to The Griddle for ridiculous pancake yummyness. Our brilliant plan of staying at a hotel near Universal and taking the metro to/from the theater worked fine (aside from the bitter cold on the walk back up the hill), but it wasn't so great for driving to/from our designated yummy breakfast spot. Had to skirt the blocked off area along Hollywood to get to The Griddle, then drove right past the southern section along Sunset to try to get back to the 101 and back home. Along the way, we saw a major accident (someone drove their sports car literally *over* a motorcycle, always good for traffic). After waiting for the ambulance to clear out in front of us, we got down to Vine and hear another siren coming from behind us (and traffic scattering). Strangest firetruck ever. It was black and said "Bomb Squad" on the side. Apparently, they take security semi-seriously or something...
Was a fun weekend. Would have rather not had to deal with Oscar craziness though. As to the Oscars themselves? Meh!
