Anyone watch them?

I watched some. Kate Blanchette's dress was my favorite.

The Kings Speech was the big winner. It was a good movie....was it that good? Well I guess it's all relative.

I was surprised True Grit, with ten nominations, didn't win a single award.

I blame Varus. It's all about the Pres.

I "missed" 99% of it but I did catch Cate Blanchett's armored petri dish dress. Nothing was going to top that anyway.

My girlfriend was watching it; I was semi-dozing when it started. I was conscious enough to hear the Best Supporting Actress winner's semi-crazed speech, and to hear The King's Speech win Best Original Screenplay (which I figured made it a guarantee to also win Best Picture), then immediately fell asleep. I loathe awards shows.

My girlfriend watched it - I played Rift instead. Can't stand award programs. Managed to catch Zach Levi and Mandy Moore singing together - so much more awkward when they're real people and not animated. Glad "The King's Speech" made out so well - it was a fantastic film.

My response to every year's Oscar/golden globe/emmy/grammy/etc. award show:

Didn't watch the Oscars, but ran into them, so to speak. Some friends and I went to go see Rock of Ages at the Pantages Saturday night. Had no clue when we bought the tickets that it was the night before the Oscars (which in retrospect explains why it was so hard to buy decent seats). There were a hell of a lot of limos parked out front, and they were already cordoning off sections of Hollywood south of Hollywood and North of Sunset when the show got out. Didn't stick around to see who was getting into them, partly because that's not my thing at all, but mostly because it was freaking freezing.

It did make our breakfast plans "interesting", since our big plan was to go to The Griddle for ridiculous pancake yummyness. Our brilliant plan of staying at a hotel near Universal and taking the metro to/from the theater worked fine (aside from the bitter cold on the walk back up the hill), but it wasn't so great for driving to/from our designated yummy breakfast spot. Had to skirt the blocked off area along Hollywood to get to The Griddle, then drove right past the southern section along Sunset to try to get back to the 101 and back home. Along the way, we saw a major accident (someone drove their sports car literally *over* a motorcycle, always good for traffic). After waiting for the ambulance to clear out in front of us, we got down to Vine and hear another siren coming from behind us (and traffic scattering). Strangest firetruck ever. It was black and said "Bomb Squad" on the side. Apparently, they take security semi-seriously or something...

Was a fun weekend. Would have rather not had to deal with Oscar craziness though. As to the Oscars themselves? Meh!

Watching the show last night made me want to have a threeway with Anne Hathaway and HBC.

And did Nat Portman really thank like, the entire crew of Black Swan? Everyone says "it's not cool to pull out a list" but she was rattling names off from memory for like five minutes.

I've never heard of anything or anyone discussed in this thread, except I guess Natalie Portman.

The only thing I ever care about in the Oscars is the Animated section, and it was kinda meh this year. Toy Story was an easy win, and the shorts were kinda lackluster I thought. I could give a damn about the rest of it.

Personally, I thought that How to Train Your Dragon was a better movie, though I thought both were great.

Helena Bonham Carter? Smiley: confused

You can have her, and Hathaway with her freaky, oddly-angled eyes.

I was a bit disappointed that Despicable Me didn't get a nomination.

Agreed. It just lacked both the star power and the franchise.

Toy Story being a Pixar film certainly couldn't have hurt it in the considerations, though, I still think that it was a better movie than How to Train your Dragon. Both were great though. You can't have the Oscars without one foreign film getting nominated, so Despicable Me axed by The Illusionist, which I haven't seen, to be fair, so I don't know if it actually deserves a spot.

It was below freezing on Saturday night. One of the women in our group is from New York, and regularly travels back to visit family (and is a big theater goer). She was wearing a heavy coat, gloves, and a scarf. Since I live in Southern California and don't own those things, I think I can safely say that it was bitter cold. To me, anyway. :)

Oh. Forgot. About a half block along the way, she pulled one of those woven cap thingies out of her purse and put it on to keep her ears warm.

"Below freezing" is perhaps a good 30+ degrees away from "bitter cold".

Bomb threat near Kodak Theater. Then Melissa Leo dropped the F-bomb. That was pretty funny.

James Franco should be shot for being such a crappy host this year. And I wanted to slap Anne Hathaway for "Woo-wooing" into the microphone all the time, but she was trying to make up for the lackluster showing of her co-host. He mentally checked out before the show even started.

I hope Billy Crystal or NPH is the host next year.

Those are called "ice cubes" and we're smart enough to keep them confined to our drinks with the umbrellas on them!
