I have no "otherly-cultured" friends. My next door neighbors are illegals from Mexico (ok, maybe legal, but there are 14 of them and 2 speak English well enough to say good morning), and a guy down the block is some sort of Asian (I picture Hank Hill saying "Are you Chinese or are you Japanese?"). Outside of them, I don't have much of a naturally occuring opportunity to interact with non-whites. Doesn't impact me at all.

I've been suffering the dawning realization that varus could very well be my brother for some time now. My brother is painfully white, knee-jerk conservative, lives in TN, and gets a surreal kick out touting the days that he played basketball with black guys (in a way that implies that he's "hardcore" for it).
The resemblance is uncanny, and it's beginning to freak me out.

My aunt married a Mexican man. My grandmother's brother married a Japanese woman he met while stationed on a base in Japan. That's pretty much the extent of my non-white exposure. This town is pretty much 100% white. There were one or two black families in the area when I was in high school.
A guy I work with was talking with me the other day, and said something along the lines of "There were these two really hot Japanese girls I went to high school with." and it turns out they were my dad's half-japanese twin cousins. I thought about saying "There was this really cute girl I used to go to school with too." which was his daughter. She's not so cute anymore, but in high school she was a looker.
Everyone I work with is the same age as my parents... and I went to high school with their kids. So I have to watch what I say about various women I met in high school.
