Last week Raymond Davis, US Diplomat in Pakistan, was driving through Lahore. Two men on a motorbike pulled up alongside him. One of the men had a gun, so Davis shot them both dead. US officials rushed to the scene to help Davis and managed to accidently kill off another Pakistani.

Davis was arrested by local authorities. The US is demanding he be released on diplomatic immunity.

There are lots of unanswered questions about Davis and his mission in Pakistan. Originally the state department denied that the man being held was Davis, or that Davis was a US Diplomat. Eventually they got their story down.

Apparently Davis is the owner of Hyperion Protective Services. He was traveling alone. It sounds like this is against SOP for diplomats in Pakistan. He had a gun.

Various stories....
- The (Very) Strange case of Raymond Davis
- What Sort of Diplomat Carries a Loaded Gun?

What do you think the real story is?

Interesting case. I really enjoyed the points laid out in the first article. No idea what will happen, or what I would like to see happen. If the US intervenes, it looks terrible for us. If Pakistani "justice" happens, then Raymond Davis faces a good chance of going to jail.

Also, although he had a diplomatic passport it appears he wasn't technically a diplomat. At least the US seems reluctant to call him that. I feel they are trying to distance themselves from the situation.

ABC just put out an interview/article.

ABC wrote:
The four Pakistani officials who spoke to ABC News on the condition of anonymity say that the two men who Raymond Davis killed in Lahore last month were working for Pakistan's premiere intelligence service, and they were following Davis because he was spying.

Later in the article a US spokesperson says it's unbelievable that the two men were working for the ISI and not simply common thugs as they had reportedly robbed someone else just an hour before Davis killed them.

Percent chance he is not a spy : 3.89%.

The real question is how much is he worth to us, and what intel he is carrying.
