My crazy conservative cousin is convinced that the most recent Superbowl was full of subliminal messaging by liberals seeking to brainwash the masses. Exact quote by her:
Quote:
Did anyone notice the subliminal messages at this show? Maybe it was when there is a giant eye that becomes the O, or when the same guy that gave us the "Yes we can" video telling Obama to "educate" our children? Or maybe the alien people taking over the stage? If you don't think the Superbowl half time show had subliminal messages, Google the name of the producer Ricky Kirshner... o_O

The only reason I think there might be a grain of truth in this is the producer, who has worked with the Obama crew in the past. Granted, he also did Prince's halftime in the 2007 Superbowl show, and there was nothing subtle about the sexual innuendo there. He's also worked on a ton of other events, like the Emmys and Tonys.

I tried running a Google search for "Superbowl subliminal messages" and the only thing that comes up is Prince's show. I honestly can't find anything to back up what my cousin is saying, and she refuses to explain why the alien or educate comments are about. Anyone else hear about this?

Nope. Don't know why I would, either. Most of what she said is a hell of a stretch, and the rest doesn't even really make sense. Smiley: confused

Don't recall tbh, then again I was pretty wasted when watching the game. That being neither here nor there, if you spend your time looking for conspiracy eventually you will start seeing it everywhere, even if it is just mutual coincidence.

To be fair, she's Cuban. The kind of Cuban that left around the time of the Revolution and now hates all things communist, progressive, or liberal. Including any other immigrant group that speaks Spanish, oddly enough.

Doesn't back her theories but MSN had an article that talked about subliminal advertising during the SB.

Quote:
COMMERCIAL CONTENT: An army of computer-graphic creatures uses a fire-breathing dragon to attack a fortress. When the inhabitants give the beast a Coke, the dragon loses all fire-breathing ability, and the battle is lost.
SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE: Soft drink consumption makes one impotent. (I’m not sure Coke really thought this one through. It was pretty, though.)

Skechers
COMMERCIAL CONTENT: A sweaty Kim Kardashian forgoes sex with her gym trainer for a pair of Skechers sneakers.
SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE: You never, ever, ever want to have sex with Kim Kardashian.

I think the article was mostly tongue-in-cheek, but thanks Smiley: lol

On dateline last night was a show about the state of our virtual existence. One of the scientists interviewed studied and experimented in virtual experiences. One particular experiment put kids into a virtual underwater experience with whales and what-not (not killer whales). Younger kids (3ish) a short-time later would relate that their experience was real. They misremembered it.

An interesting use for the technology was being tested on soldiers suffering from PTSD. The patient would undergo treatments that put him into a virtual world that was modeled to look and feel like the war zone that he had been in. In the virtual world he would encounter all sorts of stressors - enemies with guns, exploding stuff, etc. His vitals were being monitored as a measure of the stress he was feeling. Over time his stress levels dropped as his subconscious recognized that these virtually dangerous worlds were not dangerous irl. This reduction in stress is supposed to carry over to real life.

Anyway, the lesson is that what we visually absorb into our psyche may not be the reality we think it is.

In my experience, when a Kooky Conspiracy Theorist tells you to "Google ___" it means they know next to nothing about the subject at hand, but they're positive that someone does.

If you google loch ness monster you only get 1,040,000 results so it proves that the Subliminal Obama Monster is 1.5 times as real as the loch ness monster. or something.

And I saw a discovery show once about how the loch ness monster is totally real.

Leave her alone, that's the best she can do in her circumstances.
