Oh please. What kid goes to the corner store to score their booze? When I was in high school I had a shampoo bottle filled with cheap whisky from my dad's drysink.

And for the record, while I use a DVR and thus miss a lot of commercials and whatnot, I don't recall seeing a single "hysterical" ad about the proposition to legalize marijuana last year.

Do you live in California?

I can't imagine why you would see locally broadcast commercials about a proposition in California if you don't live there or very near there, is what I was driving at.

And I can't see why you'd think that's relevant, given that I do live in California. I even put a big ol arrow pointing to my "posting from" location as a hint.

What *is* relevant is my earlier statement about not seeing any hysterical ads about this proposition, doubly so in the context of several posters, most (all?) of whom do *not* live in California, assuming that the proposition failed only because of some evil effort to scare people away from legalizing the "demon weed".

It failed because it was poorly written. It failed because those who wrote it seemed more interested in the creation of secondary negative legal effects than in simply legalizing the drug. It failed because they couldn't simply write a law which legalized possession and use of said drug in any situation which does not violate federal law, but instead apparently deliberately wrote it to conflict with federal laws. I often wonder why advocates for causes do things like this, which seem purely designed to sabotage their own efforts, but they do, and with alarming frequency.
