I am sorry? I was supporting his example. I find it funny when people resort to using their real life to make them selves sound superior. (cough Varus).

I guess now is a pretty good time to admit to it: that wasn't Smash you played. It was me masquerading as Smash with an eye to lulz that never quite materialised. Probably because he never stooped low enough to rise to it, or never read the topic or whatever.

Pity, really. It had some pretty good potential.

Seems everyone is now waiting for Mubarak's speech and if the Egyptian Military Council will Step in instead of handing power over to the VP Suleiman.

Youtube is linking AlJazeer English all across it's site.

The Egyptian leadership are getting fed up with America telling them what to do ever since the beginning of the protest. Granted, the US government basically just follow where the wind blows. In the beginning they were cautious as the wind could blow either way, but when the protests escalated, they then decided to use more forceful language to make demands. I suspect the Egyptian leadership is tired of the US' flip-flopping, lack of stand on the issue, their desperation to look like they are with the people, and of course, their insatiable desire to poke their nose in other government's internal affairs to play big brother.

Although I don't support the Egyptian government, I think the US leadership should really STFU and stop pissing the world off with that big brother attitude.

They don't have that choice, not only do they have hundreds of millions of dollars invested into Egypt (primarily through military equipment and technology). Egypt is one of the few nations peaceful wit Israel in the region. Which greatly pisses off the neighboring anti-Israel arab nations.

Most importantly Egypt has control of the Suez, and atm it saves about 2 weeks or more of sea travel to the gulf and the neighboring indian ocean and thus pacific ocean. Losing the control of the Suez would be costly for trade, and more importantly at the present military purposes.

So the US is basically handcuffed into pressuring the Egyptian Govt and the Egyptian people to get their **** together. If that means that they have to support a Totalitarian regime than thats what they will do. Its not like they didn't before. If it goes on much longer don't be surprised to hear Mubarak mysteriously died and the vice president is now in charge, thats what they did in Panama, and I doubt they would hesitate to do it again, friend or not.

So you're saying that the US is making these demands to Egypt because it wants a stable, pro-US Egypt, for US interests in the region? But if that is the case, shouldn't Obama be rooting for Mubarak to stay in power until September so he can do a transition in a stable manner? Instead the US has been demanding Mubarak to 'listen to the people' and begin transition of power 'immediately'. Nobody knows what will happen if Mubarak suddenly steps down, and without Mubarak overseeing the transition of power, there is a chance that the next government could be anti-US.

Furthermore, the US making these demands to Egypt is just stupid and will like backfire. While the US never directly called for Mubarak to step down, it is clearly insinuated - telling Mubarak to listen to the people (the main thing the people are calling for is Mubarak stepping down), and demanding immediate transition of power. Everyone has pride and dignity, including Mubarak. If US had kept its mouth shut and Mubarak decides to step down, he can make a speech about respecting the people's wishes and is stepping down for the country's unity blah blah blah, and be able to resign with some dignity. However, now that the US has been making these demands, if Mubarak steps down now, many people/countries will think Mubarak stepped down due to a foreign country's demands - he refused to step down during these 2-3 weeks of massive protests, but steps down once the US starts making these demands. Mubarak will not have a shred of dignity left and will become a laughing stock in the history books. There is no way that Mubarak's pride would allow him to do anything that the US demands in public.

Not if that's going to lead to an increase in protests and drive more power towards anti-American interests. Better to push for a transition now while the existing government still has the ability to transfer power to someone of its choosing rather than someone picked by an angry mob.

This is like Mubarak telling Barry that his sterling leadership and powerful projection of foreign policy has convinced him that Barry was right all along just as everyone knew.

God bless that Barry. What a leader.
