From a few days ago. The house passed the repeal of the healthcare bill, knowing full well that it wouldn't pass the Senate or avoid veto by Obama. They called it "symbolic," though how it is symbolic of anything but partisanship escapes me.

They told their constituents they were going to do it so they did it. Its symbolic in that it won't get repealed, but in that they aren't making a bunch of promises and then dismissing them right after taking office. Simple huh?

Pathetic is more like it. Like anyone's going to care that they repealed it, but didn't get it repealed, come next election cycle. Should have moved this down the line a little before doing something so useless, but "symbolic".

It takes steps and this is the first big one. It's a notice to the president. That its not wanted. (In the form it is atm) You might be suprised if it gets repealed.

Presumably their constituents were expecting an actual repeal instead of a symbolic vote. But if they're happy with that, good for 'em I guess.

It won't be. Parts might get changed by bipartisan consent (since it would have to either get the agreement of the president or override a veto) or fail a court challenge, but it won't be repealed.

You, or the 'symbolizers' can not possibly be speaking for all. Absolute statements like, 'it's not wanted' are stupid. Obviously many in this country, lawmakers included, do want the health care bill to go forward regardless of it's watered down form. Until we have something to start molding into an efficient, fair and effective health care system, out-of-control costs are going to continue to cripple this countries economy.

Lastly, taxes aren't wanted either, but they're necessary.

In fact its repeal will most certainly stimulate economic growth and the GOP knows this, as do the dems.

Yo Varus, the health care bill is not going to be repealed.

Yes it is. Not with this senate but when what happened this last year happens again in another year and we have the seats in the senate and the presidency this will get repealed.

I know that saying it won't be repealed continuously comforts you but I can promise you the GOP will not let this go. And we have an overwhelming majority in the house and will most likely take back the senate later this year.

Either it gets repealed now, before most of the benefits kick in, or it never gets repealed. Once people are receiving benefits, it'll be political suicide to remove them. Your time line to make this happen is ridiculously small. What the GOP should be working towards is improving it and skimming off what they consider to be fat.

I'm not a Democrat. Can't be, I'm not American. I'm also not liberal, except when compared to you.

Ugly,

You actually think you're a conservative?

Yes you can. However, it's not so much that I support Obama as it is I think the GOP are a joke. Given the alternatives, I view Obama as by far, the lesser of 2 evils. McCain may have been an ok alternative, but every other major figure in the GOP is outright insane.

I wonder what McCain would have done as president. Not that I think he'd be better but he's become such a petulant whiny crank since losing the election that I wonder how he'd be if he wasn't defeated.
