The US Embassy in Kabul is funding a TV Cop-show that hit the Afghan airwaves this week. It's called Eagle Four.

It's hoped that the show will provide not only entertainment but help to foster trust between the police and the Afghan citizens they protect.

Is this good us of US Tax dollars?

I'm a bit mixed. On one hand I think promoting trust is basically a good thing. But, I'm not sure if the Afghan police are trusting.

Secondly, it seems like this is just the kind of pop-culture indoctrination thing that is sure to **** off the extremists.

Besides, shouldn't the name be Lion Four or Camel Four or something representative of Afghan versus the US?

Apparently there is one television set per 290 people in Afghanistan.

So, from that I surmise that making Cop shows to win over hearts and minds is about as useful as keeping 98,000 US troops in the country to chase down less than a 100 Al Qaeda.

So, good use of taxpayer money then.

The generosity of the people of the US is awesome! From the $UStrillion or so spent providing schools and hospitals to the beleagured citizens of Iraq, to the regular gifts of fireworks and shrapnel to wedding parties across Afghanistan and Pakistan, all at the expense of healthcare, edumacation and infrastructure projects back home in the US, I struggle to think of a nation that has done as much to extend the hand of friendship and co-operation to those unfortunates of the world who find themselves in need.

Sure, if you're an ignorant racist, but they're actually trying to market this to the Afghanis.

Probably to the extent that Americans started to like the police better when COPS started airing. Though it's probably going to be a smash hit reality TV show.

It's not a reality show though. Think more along the lines of Adam 12.

Oh, I guess that makes sense. Seeing the reality probably wouldn't help anything.
