Well, now you have photographic proof that it wasn't.

It took your husband a year to do this?
Yes. It's all hand made. It was his little project for a year. He had to use the machine shop at his work, so that limited his access. The little cast iron rings that hold the chain were custom ordered from Ohio. There were parts he had to get help from friends to complete...so you're at the mercy of their schedule.

Anyways, after talking to the cop last night my husband feels better, and i guess we don't have to worry about being out of compliance with the town anymore.

We've decided on the trash can mailbox for the winter.

You could even get a mail call.

I hear R. Lee Ermey is the best at doing mail calls, maybe you can buy a recording from him.

1. I'm kind of confused because here in Aussieland, whether in town or country, all parts of your mailbox stay on your private property, even if the slot of the mailbox lines up right at the front edge of your property. The mail deliverer comes to your mailbox, and at least on my street has a dinky little motorcycle he's allowed to ride at a snail's pace on the side walk from house to house.

2. If the garbage can worked so well I agree you should start using it again. Hopefully you can rescue most of the lovingly hand constructed mail box to stick in it. Make the garbage can a good looking one, or beautify its outside, and it could be a permanent solution.

3. No form of mailbox is going to prevent drunks crashing your front yard.

4. Why aren't the mailboxes IN your private properties around there again?

They are, but the mail carriers apparently take up the entire shoulder in their trucks so any boxes sticking just over the property line is considered a "road hazard".

If your mail is delivered via a vehicle the mailbox has to be sufficiently close to the road for the mail carrier to be able to reach it without driving on your lawn. That means it sits on the shoulder of the road. We had to be 25 feet back from the center line I believe.

Here's a picture of teh mailbox pre-crash. Pretty eh? :)

Aww, 11/10 for urban planning design. I love the fact it was part flower planter. Maybe you can put flowers in the garbage can?

THAT'S IT! Surround the next one with drowned, frozen bodies. That should keep people from driving into it, or at least give you a little entertainment when the next drunkard thinks they ran all of them over.

We have all of our mailboxes grouped together in areas and the mail carriers just make 1 stop. It's far more cost effective.

This is not common in urban areas, rather rural areas where sprawl has encroached. True urban areas in this country typically require a walking mail carrier to single points of delivery for individual addresses (excluding apartment/condo sites), which is even less efficient.

They'd have to throw those milk bags awful hard to destroy your mailbox, wouldn't they?

I don't know anything about mailbox legalities, but that is a purty mailbox, Elinda. Your husband should be proud!

Wait, she'll still be attached? Damn, I hate skinning; I wanted the tits ready to be sown onto my suit with minimal effort.

You're forgetting it's Alberta - the milk's frozen solid.

That is (was) a really awesome mailbox.

I don't know. I think it's strange that you're required to have one at all. In every place I've lived in Europe we either had the mailbox inside the house or just a mail slot in the door. We did have a mailbox when I lived in FL, and it was 300 yards from our house which I always thought was really strange.

Depends on where you live. In town around here, people don't have mail boxes on the road, they have bins or door slots and the delivery person walks up to the house to deliver mail. In the less populated places, where houses are quite a distance from the road and far in between, we have mail boxes so a person driving a vehicle can just pull off the side of the road and deposit your mail. It would be really inefficient if the delivery person had to drive down every persons driveway to put mail in a bin/slot on their door.

It's not that odd to have a mailbox far away from the house. It's at the end of the driveway, so when coming home from work you just stop, grab the mail, then drive up to your house.
