Kelly Slater has just won his 10th world ASP title in awesome style with a 10/10 on his final wave in Puerto Rico.

He is the only person in professional sport to be the youngest and the oldest world title holder.

He won his first at age 20 and he's just won his 10th at age 38. He won it 5 consecutive times from '94 to '98.

The man is a farking legend.

Notice his foot? Yup. He broke it in a previous heat and wrapped some gaffa tape around it and then went on to win the comp.

Like I said...Best athlete ever.

That photo in the OP is from a comp in Tahiti a couple of years ago. These were his two perfect 10's from the Puerto Rico comp.

There's nothing gaffa tape can't fix. Including rocket modules.

Surfers <> athletes.

Neither are skaters or skiers or race car drivers. Add to the list anything else where all you have to do is hang on to whatever vehicle or mode of travel you are using. They are very skilled at what they do, and I am impressed by that skill constantly, but they are not athletes, and certainly wouldn't qualify for the title of "Best Athlete Ever". Though EVAH might be within their grasp.

No. Cheerleaders are teenaged jazzercisers in short skirts.

I would argue that surfing does requite quite a bit of strength and co-ordination. More so than, say, golf...

He's also well known for nailing a lot of celebrities. Cameron Diaz and Paris Hilton come to mind.

Everyone in the building where I work surfs so when I realize that it's really quiet around here, I'll look out the window and see everyone waiting for a set to come in. I haven't surfed in years and it takes strength, coordination, balance and timing to do it well. But I do have to say that when you have your balance and ride one in, there is nothing like it.

I do miss being out in the water like that. Guess I'm going to have to find me a longboard.

And since we're discussing surfing, RIP Andy Irons.

So does taking a leak, but I manage to get my massive dong out of my pants nearly every time and generally hit the water.

That doesn't make me an athlete.

Maybe it should, but it doesn't.

Moe,

Are you trying to argue that surfers aren't athletes? Really?

I'm going to have to pop in Northshore and watch Laird pimp that upity AZ kid now.

Colin Montgomerie cannot be defined as an "athlete". Golf might require some athletic elements, but if its practitioner are athletes, it's only because they're cheating on golf with another sport.

I am neither implying that golfers are athletes nor that they are more athletic than surfers, only that golf is a harder profession than getting stoned and hanging out on the beach.

Yeah those bunkers are a real b*tch compared to those 10ft swells that can snap your back like a twig if you ***** up.
