I'm fairly certain that I mentioned at least twice now that I was merely responding to my "poor career choice". I'm still waiting on a real reason on why my career choice was a poor one.
So basically someone made fun of you on the internet and you spent hundreds of words and dozens of posts defending your life.

Nope, I spent hundreds of words and dozens of posts asking for clarification... it's all part of the ga..
You always ask for clarification, it's like you can't understand anything anyone is saying.

I figured Jophiel would respond with that, but I guess you did. What I stated was a subjective definition of broke. In my opinion, if you don't have enough money to fully support yourself, then you're "broke". Maybe "dependent" would be more appropriate for you, but I still see it as broke.

Uh? what? Noooo.... I have a self-sustaining job. Since when is "having a job that allows me to fully support myself" equal to "broke". I don't rely on anyone for anything, that is independent. Unless you're arguing on relying on a job, then who doesn't do that? How else are you are suppose to get money?

Apparently, as we all know, you don't read what you write.

You are saying because someone is having their room and board paid for by someone else that they are "dependent" or in your eyes "broke." But as you said previously, you don't pay for your apartment...whatever else you claim, therefore someone else is paying for it, therefore you're not independent therefore you are "broke." Don't bring up you having a "self sustaining" job either, since you never said anything about a student not having a job therefore it's irrelevant in this case. But I know you'll bring it up anyways.

I don't know why I'm trying to explain this to you because I know you won't understand but I think someday we all hope it might get through to you.

And you guessed it.....

ALmalieque from a page ago wrote:
I said broke (as you took the bait), because in one, I have a self-sustaining job and in the other I don't. If you're in college, living in a dorm and your parents are paying for your room, then you are not independent. You're dependent. You are broke, living off of your parents.

I'm independent, because I have a self-sustaining job. Unless you're arguing that I'm dependent on my job, then of course, who isn't? I work and I get paid for my work. I later take that pay and pay my bills. Isn't that what you do?

I said that if you don't have a self-sustaining job, then you are dependent which I would personally call broke, because you don't make enough money to support yourself.

This is not a difficult concept. I have a self-sustaining job. With my job, I'm able to take care of any financial obligations. This is what most people call independent.

Hyolith wrote:

Of course I'll bring it up, as I just did, because you know that you're wrong. Your counter doesn't even make any sense. I didn't mention it so it doesn't count?

This is not a difficult concept. If you can't see the difference from having a job and not being able to fully support yourself and having a job and being able to fully support yourself, then that's a personal issue. I'm sure the people that you're borrowing money from knows the difference quite well.

*Insert pointless resposne from Alma here*

So in your opinion if a college student had a full time job and was theoretically able to pay for their room and board they would still be "broke" since someone else is paying it for them. That is what you are saying.

In your case you have a job, but your not paying for your apartment, therefore as I have stated, in your definition, you are "broke."

I never said such a thing. This is the reason why I pointed out "self-sustaining job". If you earn enough money to sustain yourself and fulfill all financial obligations, then you are independent.

I made the mistake and assumed that you would realize that most parents only assist in their children's college education because the children can not afford to pay for it alone. The likelihood of a parent deciding to give their own money to an institution when their child has a free ride is low to nonexistent. So, what my statement meant is that the parents are giving money not because the child has the money, but because the child does not have the money. This would label the child broke.

If you theoretically have the money to be independent in college and your parents decide to give you money, that doesn't make you broke, because you have the money.

Lastly, this money is coming from my employer, not a friend or relative. I earned that money as a part of my monthly salary. Once again, it's called having a job.

???

Wait, are you implying that having an employer that pays your rent is bad? Are you saying that if your boss offered your organization more money to pay for your bills that you would decline? Dude get real... You're looking real sad.

Besides, it's called BAH, it's part of our income. The military do not physically pay anyone. I can use that money on anything I want, because I earned it as a part of my salary that I get for working with the military.

You all claim that I'm "bragging", when the truth seems as if you're just jealous. Seriously, who makes fun of someone who receives additional money as bonuses? "Ha haha, look at 'em, getting paid all that additional money. He's so broke that he uses his additional money to pay bills!" I'm not bragging at the least, but there is nothing you can say to justify such stupidity.

You, nor anyone, would decline more money from your employer. If your employer gave you a brand new company car of your choice, with a free gas card, you would take it. Quit acting silly. If you're ashamed of receiving money from your employer that you earned, then why are you working for money? You should work for free. Matter of fact, give me your bank information so I can transfer myself that money. You should be ashamed being all dependent on your employer. Get ya ern money!!

Now, back to reality. You're just a slightly 'spergier version of Darkenbuddy with a GED, a 4 incher, a camry, a studio apartment, & enrolled in a ROTC program at whatever community college would have you.

But hey, at least you still have rhythm.

This is a prime example. At a quick glance at the pay chart, it can be obtained at O5 (probably other grades as well), so you're wrong. Not only is that grade very obtainable, you haven't expressed any reason (that is evaluated) on why I wouldn't make full bird...

The highest you can make at O5 is $98380.80.
You need minimum O6 to make 6 figures.

That's pretty funny given that I was specifically talking to one person and not you or anyone else, yet you still felt compelled to be defensive. As I mentioned, there is no logical reason to ridicule anyone for having good benefits that you wouldn't turn away yourself. Rather you are or not, that is a sign of envy.

Your implication that I've been lying on this forum makes me question you as well. That is, unless you don't doubt my words and are just saying random stuff to insult. Which one is it?

SEK wrote:

A difference of $1619.20? really?.. ok, since you want to get technical, you forgot BAS, which is $223.04 a month for officers. This would give you 6 figures. I'm not even going to include any other factors as they may vary. So, you're wrong, you can make 6 figures as an O5. You are looking at the base pay alone. If you were to calculate in a lot of other variables, you can pull 6 figures as an O4.

Besides, we're talking about myself here. Every year, the military gets a raise, so I'm sure in 16 years, O5 will obtain that $1619.20.

Well, I was looking at the same chart you were looking at and at current 2010 rates. That and the 2011 chart will likely push it over to 100,000+, if the current trend followed of at least 3% raise per year. I suppose if it changes at the same rate that O4 will hit the 6 figure mark as well.

I'm used to Canadian Forces pay rates where I know that any Major/Lt. Cmdr and above will make that kind of pay. So I apologize.

Out of curiousity what is your rank and years of service? You were slightly vague on that before.

For those that aren't fluent in the military, that equates with 'invertebrate, 4th grade'.

Christ we have a junior wannabe getting all Schwarzenneger on us.

So let's skip over your fantasising about your merit as just another termite in the colony a vital cog in the machine that keeps the western world free, and assume your 'free house and gold plated car' comments were atmospheric context, and in no way bragging.

Meanwhile, however, your grasp of geo-politics, the servient role of the US military to the electorate, and your moral compass are as much use as a one legged spastic in an ************ competition.

On your pay and conditions, I'd stick to bragging about your fascinating catalogue of sexually transmitted infections.
