So I bought an iPad today(which i am typing on right now) and I have to say i am enjoying it very much. It's very fast and the touchscreen is very smooth. I don't have an iPhone so this is my first real adventure in the Mac world. My biggest disappointment is the lack of flash, but I knew that before going into the purchase. So far I can see myself using this on a daily basis.

I haven't got a chance to search through the app store yet. Anyone have any suggestions?

Smash it with a hammer and get a real computer. Ipads are just overlarge, overpriced rectangular suppositories with no redeeming values whatsoever. They make them out of ground up baby orphans, and they cause cancer. and aids. and aidscancer.

Edit: also, are you Trunksbrando's sockpuppet? That would be annoying.

I hate it when I'm checking people in & I ask if they brought a computer with them (because we have free wireless) and they exclaim, "No, I have an iPad!"

Douchebags.

But in the iPad's defense, my 96 year old grandmother got one for her birthday, was able to figure out how to use it pretty effectively, & is enjoying teh e-mail.

HP has made better tablet PCs since 2003, but they're not that popular because tablet PCs are f*cking stupid.

Kindle - must have. you get to read the first chapter for free, and the prices are usually lower than for paperbacks.

Easier to browse web and Zam on ipad than iphone.

Pkt Weather is great. The clock and calculator are great, I think they are standard on iphones. Clock gives world timesone info, and alarms. Calender is awesome on iphone, but it doesn't give me the option to mark particular days in red, which is a loss of usability for an irregular woman.

Quota is awesome for keeping track of your phone and internet activity compared to your plan maximum.

Spend is very simple, there's probably better spending tracking out there, but I have to say that this program has finally completely brought my credit card spending into balance. THere's too much stuff online I can't buy without a credit card, and if I enter the amount directly into Spend as I purchase something, then I always know where I am and what I know.

I've got a local to my city and state public transportation map/timetable. I don't think my ap will apply to you, but there'll be one out there for you.

Flipboard is kinda cool; I don't use it much but the wife loves it. It aggregates Facebook, Twitter, and various news feeds into a sort of page-turn magazine format. It's hard to describe, so just check it out for yourself - it's free.

For newspapers & magazines: NPR News, NYTimes, and Slate are all free & provide good light reading.

For streaming video: ABC Player (free ABC shows), CBS News (free), Netflix (subscription), Hulu Plus (subscription, but there are a few freebies too)

Playing video without having to re-encode: CineXPlayer (plays DivX movies), VLC Media Player (haven't tried it, heard the first iteration is buggy).

Best game that doesn't lose anything in transition from iPhone to iPad: Enviro Bear 2000
