"The Misadventures of Romantic Cannibals," by Stanford University's Enrique Chagoya, has been the subject of a week's worth of protests by those who claim it is blasphemy.

Here are the relevant articles.
Art exhibit draws protests in Loveland, CO
Woman attacks disputed artwork

The protests start last week and this week a truck driver from Montana drives down, breaks in, and destroys the Lithograph.

Can someone, perhaps Varus, explain to me why you'd go out of your way to get a minimum of 2 years in jail to destroy a lithograph? There are 29 other copies. Also, is Jesus getting head really that obscene these days?

These radical Christians will not stop until the world sees things their way. Too bad you all treat them like human beings.

At least it wasn't Muhammad, the entire building could have been leveled.

The funny thing about blasphemy is that it's only blasphemy if you subscribe to the religion. When people debate whether religious nuts actually force their religion onto others, this is the kind of thing I usually refer to.

If you don't like it, look the other way. I'm pretty sure Jesus would have turned the other cheek...

Religious fanatics remind me of kindergartners. I've been receiving e-mails of praise for this woman all day.

This.

Religion is truely the bane of human existance. Smiley: frown
I do feel that the elimination of religion would solve 99% of the world's problems.

I disagree. It's not the religion, it's the people. If they didn't use religion as their tool for being complete morons, then they'd find something else.

The elimination of people might solve 99% of the world's problems, though.

Incidentally, the "cheesing" episode of South Park was on last night.

Here is a link to a small picture of the art in question.

Not safe for work.

http://www.sharksink.com/images/EC02-01f.jpg

It is sequential art and the damning panels are the 10th and 12th panels according to some of the protesters. I'm not sure if the Denver Post still has up the photos of the protesters but their signs were hilarious.

It looks like a bunch of side-scenes from Monty Python taped together.

The problem lies not with religion, but with superstitious thought all together. I think the world would benefit greatly from a huge dose of skeptical thought.

Religion isnt bad, saying that the world would be better off without religion is just ignorant. Religion helps people all over the world, in ways that some people will never understand. Though just like with anything in this world, people can warp and twist it into something evil. Don't become mad at religion, become mad at the people who try to inforce it in a way that it wasnt meant to be used.

And another thing I wonder about is that out of all the things in this world to write about, represent or in this case draw, why would you choose a religion to demoralize when you know it will upset people? Religion's are peoples belief's, and that is something you should never antagonize. But I guess the world isnt much about decency these days huh?

Bah.

Maybe people need to grow a pair and not take it so personally when people insult their imaginary friend in the sky or some guy who's been dead for ages, hmmm?
