I knew this was coming... more lawsFollow

It's always sad to hear about someone losing their life at a young age. In the case of this Rutger freshman Tyler Clementi, the tragedy is sparking controversy as to whether there should be a law against bullying/harassment. I'm of a the belief we have far too many laws governing our lives already. Many schools already have some form of anti-harassment protocol in place. The simple truth of the Tyler Clementi case is he never gave the school any chance to resolve this issue prior to committing suicide. If anything, society's lack of acceptance in general for gays is what ultimately led to his death, not the invasion of privacy itself. So as a country, we should be careful what extremes to pursue in the effort to change the laws.

As a kid growing up, I wasn't the biggest or the most athletic kid on the block. I was your normal average kid with more in common with Peter Parker(pre-spider bite) than the jocks. I know how it can feel to be harassed about who your friends are, your clothes, your looks, and anything else that is different. Yet, I don't have as much sympathy for this kid as most people seem to feel for him. I know life can suck when people make fun of you or call you names based on your lifestyle. You don't even have to be gay to be harassed by your peers who might perceive you to be gay just because you are timid around the opposite sex.

Now we have U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg trying to call into play new legislation blowing this issue up much more than it needs be done. Nobody will argue what happened wasn't a tragedy, however it's nothing that should require a new law to contain the problem. As another person mentioned in the comments, what have we done all this time without a law in place? I'm a firm believer that giving our government any more power than they have now no matter how good the intention will result in fewer liberties. The Patriot Act is by far the worst bill to ever be passed in the entire history of the USA. We must really stop letting others dictate what is a problem and learn to solve most problems on our own. I'm not for anyone to be harassed, but there has to be another way. Tolerance for those that are different should be the focus, not more laws.

Is there a reason you can't post in the thread that has already on this discussion?

I believe you know which one it is, you seem to have quite a few posts there.

#5REDACTED, Posted: Oct 06 2010 at 10:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm trying to focus this discussion on why new laws aren't necessary. The old thread was a topic about privacy invasion. The 2 threads aren't the same despite the subject topic Tyler Clementi being similar. One is about privacy invasion and this thread is about new pending laws because of it. I prefer to keep them separate.

Really, you just started a new thread to write some trite essay that you knew people would normally skip over in that other thread

#7REDACTED, Posted: Oct 06 2010 at 11:00 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I want a response to our government's obsession with making pointless new laws. You have clearly confirmed that the people in the other thread would of skipped over it(partly because it was off topic) so why post there? Is this how the Asylum people welcome new posters, harass them for trying to contribute?

It's typically recommended to read a forum for a few minutes before you post there
#9REDACTED, Posted: Oct 06 2010 at 11:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I actually did read a few of the threads prior to posting. Most of the threads on this forum are just flamefests which I'm trying to avoid. I'm not saying I'm some advanced poster or anything, only that newbies shouldn't be flamed for not understanding the status quo off the bat. If you're sincere in offering advice, I'm open to any suggestions you might have. Please don't make any presumptions though. Ask me, I'm not afraid of anything or anyone.

The OP reads as you sputtering about looking for self-pity about the way you were treated in high school. It's sort of hard to take a argument that boils down to "well we're ALL teased so it's ok!!!" seriously.

Also, you wrote an entire post complaining about something and never once even said what it was. Well done!

Requires colleges to have a policy prohibiting harassment? Well, that should certainly put a stop to things!

#12REDACTED, Posted: Oct 06 2010 at 11:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) That's because you were skimming the OP. Sen. Frank Lautenberg is attempting to create NEW laws all because of this incident. I'm arguing that new laws are unnecessary and tolerance is the key to moving on. ALL kids are teased at some point of their life, that's very relevant to the harassment law. Because as you should well know, even a small law can snowball into a big law. Imagine if this law only affected federal sponsored colleges. Now imagine if all public schools enforced these new laws K-college. Tolerance is the answer, not ruining lives with absolute laws that don't see the world as a whole.

Die in a fire?

This forum isn't newbie-friendly. (It's also not ********************** but that's an entirely different matter.) We're not here to coddle the fragile egos of the half-illiterate crotch droppings who call themselves "valued posters". If you want to be accepted here... expect to be picked apart initially and frequently until you either leave crying or learn how to handle it.

But really, based on your previous posts here and elsewhere, I don't have much hope for your future here.
#14REDACTED, Posted: Oct 07 2010 at 12:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You know something, I wasn't expecting to be coddled. After lurking for awhile, I knew most of the forum posters were virtual losers who get off on cyber bullying others. They have such a low self-system that they must attack others so they feel better about themselves. Especially those special posters who like to respond with a single sentence by insulting others and yet contribute nothing of value. No personal experiences, no opinions, just brash arrogance and resentment of others. I've yet to get a single reply on the subject so I think I'm done wasting my time with these losers. Thanks for the tip MDenham, I have far more interesting places to go anyways than this dump of a website. The dumb *** Admins can't police these forums worth a damn either. I prefer to converse with people that have been around the world and understand it, not live behind a computer talking trash and nothing better to do with their lives. For those that are the exception to the rule, God speed and good luck. The rest of you can go die a painful death in a fire.

Removing "FFXI" from your posting name and "Bastok Mines" from your posting from could only help you then.
#19REDACTED, Posted: Oct 07 2010 at 12:13 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yeah, you're probably right. Final Fantasy has gone down the toilet since FF6. It's all good, I'm off the crack now so that's all that matters.

Your flaw is in the assumption that everything you write with sincerity is worth responding to seriously.
