Just flew a pass right in front of my office window. Love my new view! ;)

I am a bit amazed that they're going forward with their test flights today, given that I'm seeing lighting strikes in all directions. Bad day for flying...

The Blue Angels are amazing. I'm still sad I didn't get to see them at the Chicago Air and Water Show this year. I remember the first time I saw them fly was at a small air show in Missouri somewhere. It was pretty amazing. I did see the Thunderbirds at last years Chicago Air and Water Show, but it's just not the same.

Post a photo.

Caught part of a Blue Angels show and part of their practice when we were in Michigan this summer. Pretty cool although it fucked up traffic somethin' awful.

I would, but I didn't bring my camera into work. The one on my phone is really really crappy. I've tried taking pics of planes flying around before, and all you get is fuzzy specks (if you can get them in view at all.

I still remember when I lived in UTC and was driving to work one day (mid-late 90s). A B2 flew right overhead for the airshow really slow. Traffic just stopped.

The one and only time I saw the Blue Angels was in Puerto Rico. In 1970.

I did live, for about a decade, about a kilometer from the flightline for Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, so I had a front-row seat for every air show they did there during the 90's. Also, when the flights turned off the main route at the show, they tended to swing around right over my house.Smiley: cool

A B2 flew over a camp I was at when I was younger. It was pretty high though so I wasn't able to get a very clear picture. I guess you'll probably see that stuff at a camp near Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri.

Yes. And remember, gbaji, to get a really good photo of the view you need to lean out the window. Waaaaayyyyy out.

I've never seen the Blue Angels, but I have seen the Air Force Thunderbird Squadron on a couple of occasions. Absolutely amazing stuff.

I just went through the wikipedia pages of both squadrons. I have to admit that I'm a bit surprised at the frequency of fatalities in the squadrons. 10% of Blue Angels pilots have been killed, and the number looks to be comparable for the Thunderbirds. I knew it was a dangerous gig, but I never knew it was that bad.

And this is why I *don't* enjoy watching them. I'm always afraid that I'll be at the air show where it all goes wrong.

That could be kind of cool. If, you know, no one dies or anything.

Or just watch all the stuff on TV. Since I don't know if they ever show anyone dying on those reality shows. Well except maybe some of the "Worlds Dumbest Criminals" ones.

No, that's what I'm talking about. I know my luck. There would be 2-3 planes that would have a mid-air collision. And then they'd come crashing down right in front of me. Hell, probably ON me.

That's how I roll, baby.

Ah. Yeah. I can do that one of these days. My new(ish) office is pretty cool. Have a full view north across the valley. The planes fly circles from the airfield pretty much right around where my building is. Don't get much warning before they pass, but it's pretty darn impressive!

Where I used to live, we'd get buzzed by RAF jets all the time. They'd fly very low through the valley, so that you could be out for a stroll one minute and the next you'd have a couple of Jaguars screaming overhead, just above the telephone poles.

One day a neighbour got sick of it and wrote "FUCK OFF BIGGLES" on their roof in great big letters.

I used to love going to Coronado Beach in San Diego for that very reason. There's an airfield right beside the beach, and every hour you'll get a new plane coming in or taking off right above you. They were so close overhead that it felt like could reach out and touch them. Lots of F-16's and such.

My favorite were the C-130 type planes...they'd make this insanely loud drone as they landed that you could feel making your internal organs shake.

I used to live at an airport and they had to stop there for some reason. Was around 10 at the time so my memory of that day is fuzzy. I did manage to get an autographed poster from each of the pilots. :P Unfortunately my parents, being the super bright people they were at the time, decided to shore the poster in the glove box of their car and it proceeded to get messed up. >.> Still have it though buried in a box in the closet.

Damn, there was an event nearby recently where they were flying with old WW2 aircrraft and had parachutes and everything. I should have gone there and taken photos to get sage. Smiley: glare

When I live at NAS Lemoore they would come whenever there was a air show. I love watching the planes fly over the field just outside of housing the day or two before the air show. Living on base we always got a preview of the show as they practice the day before the show.

Nad, I understand your fear, as I'm thankful I wasn't living on the base, the one year there was an accident during the air show. I'm sure with my luck, I would have been standing right were the plane crashes.

I got some pretty good pics of the Blue Angels when they attended the Scott AFB air show in early September. The base is about 5 miles from my house, so my backyard was in their flight pattern. Got plenty of low altitude flybys.

Every time I see this thread name, I assume you guys are talking about lighting your farts on fire, as that's the only time I've ever heard of a reference to Blue Angels.
