I bought Civ 3 in a Steam sale this summer and just couldn't get into it. The pace of technological discoveries just seemed ridiculously slower to me, and that was one of the things I liked most about Civ 2.

I've played II to IV Warlords and will look into getting myself V for my birthday in Dec.

I will play IV for hours for days when I don't want to be social and I'm tired of solitaire. Sadly I misplace my Warlords disk, for I miss being able to build the Great Wall.

How does cheat system work in V? I'll admit to using World Builder to give myself 5k gold and all of the ancient techs.

Ooohhh.... I wanna get this. I have every Civ from I-IV already. I wonder if I should, though. According to the "Can you run it?" site, I exceed the minimum requirements, but fall well short of the recomended requirements, specifically in CPU and Video Card. It may be a lagfest. Smiley: frown

Oh, and I freaking hate having to buy tiles instead of just building a ton of culture-producing buildings and watching them grow. Smiley: bah

I thought that you expanded both ways, but that buying the tiles was the quick-fix way to do it, and naturally letting them develop takes a very long time. I could be wrong, though.

I'm pretty sure you can expand through culture, it's just much slower than before.

I've only played for a few hours, so I don't feel qualified to give a review yet, but I'm really enjoying the 1 Unit per Tile feature. It stops the "stacks of doom" which always happened in Civ IV, and it allows for tactical battles, using choke points and landscape features.

It does seem as though the game needs a few updates/patches/mods, though. It's not the first Civ game out with glitches, bugs, and weak AI...

I've never had the patience for Civ - I played a bit of 2, but I gave it up after a few hours. I know that sounds strange from someone who's played an MMO for a couple of years, but it's true.

I never leveled my pokémon past sixty, either.
