A few years back I tried to change my user-name to "RedPhoenix", but it was already taken. I can't imagine what kind of loser would use that name.

On the bright side, my user name used to be "RedPhoenixxxxxx", so that's an improvement I guess.

I was vilifying this PsionofPhoenix fellow for his lack of x's, not you for your preponderance of them!

I'm going to create a sock called "PsionofPhoenixxx" just to make sure this vilification continues.

You could simply break-away from the x all together and be RedPhoeni.

It's Friday. How about this be the thread since it's already here?

I'm supposed to go to the CGF tomorrow, but we're getting torrential rains. No fair fun in the rain, so I'll likely bag it.

Look, the bees hive in the tree out on my road is reaching critical mass. It's either gonna break the limb off the tree or be implode into Invasion-of-the-hive 2.0.

I'm going to Paris for the week-end. My brother is getting married, but he's been with his girlfriend for 17 years, and they have 2 kids together, so it's just an excuse to drink gallons of champagne. Which is absolutely fine by me.

If I'm being completely honest, I would much rather have spent the week-end playing Civ 5. But well, at least now I know what I'm doing next week-end.

I don't know yet; it's coming out today and I'm stuck at work. But I've played every single civilisation game, so I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy this one too.

I'll happily give a review of it next week though!

Flying back to the States tomorrow. I get to watch some good old American football instead of the goofy version they're playing over here.

The basic premise is the same, of course, but the land around your city can't grow with culture, you have to buy tiles. The culture you gain lets you choose policies instead.

Oh, and those little villages you used to find that would disappear and they'd give you gold, some unit, or a technology? Those are city states now. You can befriend them or kill them off as you see fit.

The graphics are pretty cool. And you can discover natural wonders now that can give you bonuses. You also find ancient ruins where are more like the small villages were in Civ IV. You get something if you find them and go to that tile. And military units don't stack. Smiley: frown Which makes building a massive army a little bit harder.

Oh! But once you get the sailing technology, you don't have to build a carrier type boat to take your peeps across the water! They walk to the shore, then just turn into boats and sail across whatever body of water you direct them across, which is pretty kick ***.

ETA: One more thing. The instruction manual sucks ***. If you use the instruction manuals, you'll want to go to the website and download the PDF version (250 pages) if you want something more detailed.

That sounds an awful lot like Rise of Nations, honestly.

I haven't bought it yet, just downloaded the demo, which has the tutorial deactivated (lame). So I'm trying to figure things out on my own. Not being able to stack units is weird. I usually have 4-6 in each city and now I can only have one. I don't feel safe. =( Overall, I like it though. I'll be buying it once hubby's training period is over at his job and the cash is rolling in.

Depending on the game I'm playing and how much I've pissed people off, I usually have a dozen or more in my city. But this way, I have to take a more strategic way of placing my cities (surrounded by water or mountain on a couple of sides) and I just place my units in front of it.

I console myself that none of the other civilizations can stack their units, either.

Oh, and I freaking hate having to buy tiles instead of just building a ton of culture-producing buildings and watching them grow. Smiley: bah

Yeah, I didn't figure that part out soon enough, so I think I'll start another game since I have a little better idea of what I'm doing now.

I started a war with a city state thinking they'd be easy to kill and am getting my *** handed to me. I'm starting a new game, too. Smiley: lol

I have one city state asking for help against another one. I told 'em both to go to hell, haha.

Next game I'll dominate, rawr.

I'm seriously thinking about starting a game and having only one city. Just buying a ton of tiles, making a ton of military, and taking any other cities I desire by force.

My boss is out of town for a conference, but I'm having to get some things done today. Going to try to sneak out a bit early if possible, but I probably jinxed myself by saying that so now I'm going to have to work until 7 tonight.

Disneyland tomorrow (finally). Smiley: yippee

Sunday: Recuperation and house stuff.

It *is* odd. I've not played long enough to go to war yet, so I don't know if it helps or hinders.

I do like that when the enemy gets close to a city, you can lob arrows at them. =)

Unfortunately, they cannot.

This sucks, though, when you go to beseige a city and they do it to you. Smiley: frown

Considering I just started playing Civ IV this month, I think I'll stick with that for awhile. Hell, I skipped III altogether and played II for about ten years off and on.
