Actually I'm certain that there are many regulars here who have noticed that.

But there are a depressing fuckton of people in Australia, America, and elsewhere who haven't noticed that.

They can't see the historic parallels at all.

If the parallel lines are at even in indiscernible angle to one another, eventually, they'll cross.

I think you'd be making too many false conclusions and ignoring too many issues by declaring the Muslims the new Jews.

There need not be one single commonality between the two cultures. What is relevant is that once again a numerously dominant culture in a set of countries has allowed the bad behaviour of a minority of individuals within a minority culture to erroneously form their idea of individuals in that entire minority culture.

I'm sick of the baddies turning out to be Muslims in the majority of action films the past two decades, after the end of the Cold War, during which all the baddies turned out to be Russian. I'm sick of Vox Pops on Australian, American and European streets saying they don't think having a "mosque" built in their locality is appropriate. I'm sick of women and girls in head-scarves being yelled at and spat on. I'm sick of the scapegoating of an entire religion of people.

And as said, I get your point and intuited most of this from the OP. But there are huge differences between the two groups; the most giant one, in my mind, being that while there are 13-14 million Jews in the world (.02% of the population), there are likely over 1.6 BILLION Muslims in the world (20% of the world population). In addition, while we have one predominantly Jewish country in the world (Israel), we have 47 countries where Islam is the predominant religion.

While Muslims may be a minority in European and North American countries, they are very sizable minorities, if not the majority in many countries in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Judaism never had that kind of size or numbers.

I can see what you're saying, but like locke said, the sheer size of the group really completely transforms the issue into something completely different.

This. Most of the Muslim ladies I've met over the years wore jeans, long sleeved T-shirts, and a matching scarf for every day, and lovely custom sewn pant suits for formal occasions. One had a pretty nose ring. Another lived with the man who became her husband ahead of time against her family's wishes because, as she put it, "I'm an American, dammit. I needed to know I could stand being in the same house with him before I committed."

I don't think burqas should be outlawed in the US. Instead, Muslim American women who have been here a while need to explain to them that it's not necessary to hide yourself here - our definition of modest dress is merely "don't look like a street hooker."

On the bright side, circumcision rates in the US are dropping fast.
