Probably because the Taliban actually executes their ******.

Homosexuals aren't exactly known for real courage, which doesn't include letting the world know about your sex life.

Yeah, "real courage".

How about Victor Fehrenbach?

Quote:
Fehrenbach, an 18 year combat veteran of the U.S. Air Force flew the longest combat sorties in squadron history, and was awarded nine air medals for destroying Taliban and Al-Queda targets. Fehrenbach was the latest to be fired for being gay under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", even though he was only two years from retirement. Fehrenbach put off appealing his discharge, hoping President Obama and Congress would overturn Don't Ask Don't Tell, but so far they're taking their sweet time. Should President Obama move swiftly to end "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"?

How many combat missions have you flown, chickenhawk?

That's the best you can do, troll boy? You're getting weak in your old age. I think that ALL soldiers deserve our honor and respect, as they're putting their lives on the line for us. I don't care what their sexual preference is, I don't care what their religion is. You're the one whining about gays in the military, and how they don't deserve to be there. Put up, or shut up... yeah right, like that will happen.

Mehlman's leadership positions in the GOP came at a time when the party was stepping up its anti-gay activities -- such as the distribution in West Virginia in 2006 of literature linking homosexuality to atheism, or the less-than-subtle, coded language in the party's platform ("Attempts to redefine marriage in a single state or city could have serious consequences throughout the country..."). Mehlman said at the time that he could not, as an individual Republican, go against the party consensus. He was aware that Karl Rove, President Bush's chief strategic adviser, had been working with Republicans to make sure that anti-gay initiatives and referenda would appear on November ballots in 2004 and 2006 to help Republicans.

Mehlman acknowledges that if he had publicly declared his sexuality sooner, he might have played a role in keeping the party from pushing an anti-gay agenda.

"It's a legitimate question and one I understand," Mehlman said. "I can't change the fact that I wasn't in this place personally when I was in politics, and I genuinely regret that. It was very hard, personally." He asks of those who doubt his sincerity: "If they can't offer support, at least offer understanding."

"What I do regret, and think a lot about, is that one of the things I talked a lot about in politics was how I tried to expand the party into neighborhoods where the message wasn't always heard. I didn't do this in the gay community at all."

He said that he "really wished" he had come to terms with his sexual orientation earlier, "so I could have worked against [the Federal Marriage Amendment]" and "reached out to the gay community in the way I reached out to African Americans."

Mehlman is aware that his attempts to justify his past silence will not be adequate for many people. He and his friends say that he is aware that he will no longer control the story about his identity -- which will simultaneously expose old wounds, invite Schadenfruede, and legitimize anger among gay rights activists in both parties who did not hide their sexual orientations.

Damn shame on all accounts.

Not sure it was such a shame. He's a politician, he lied to go along with his party. It happens on both sides. It's eating him up from the inside now? Boo-freaking-hoo, you lost your chance to do much good about it. Live with the guilt and the anger. Kudos for him to come out with his history, but a darn shame that he could only get the guts to do it once he was out of a position to make a difference and after he actively worked against gay rights.

Are you actually glorifying "womanizing" as a virtue?

That's pretty silly, even for you.
It's not like he's a Christian. Sheesh.

True story, I've been looking for that graphic FOREVER! Saved, thank you!

I guess my point is that it's not a shame on all accounts as I quoted. He deserves the hate heaped upon him. I don't suddenly think he's a great guy because he's gay or got the balls to come out. He still worked actively against gay rights and only came out after he couldn't be strung up by his own party.

He keeps claiming he is, which is proof that the standards for Christianity have dropped a long way in two thousand years.

Well obviously varus isn't going to know about facts. And since it's a link to a piece of contrary evidence he'll never click it out of fear of tampering with his imaginary world view.
