Also, for someone so worked into a lather over gender equality, it's funny that Gbaji has never once advocated for women in full combat roles in the military nor for women to be equally eligible under the draft.

FWIW, this position can at least be argued from the sexual dimorphism angle, similar to barring women from becoming fire fighters.

Look buddy, you either believe in a little thing in America called the 14th Amendment or you don't.

I'd point out that Israel allows chicks to serve in combat roles and they get by but we don't care what other nations do. Not in... America!

Seriously. I don't get why women can't serve in combat, that's idiotic. Are they also still giving them less push ups and ****?

I'm misunderstanding this, right? You do allows females to be firefighters, yes? Because that's just stupid if you don't.

Yes. In the Physical Fitness Assessments, a male of my age is required to do 46 push ups. A same age girl? I think it was 12. Less than 16, I know.

In boot camp I was then embarrassed by a girl who did more than I did.

That's just fucked up.

Because she was a "girl," or because someone did more push ups than you?

Also? A female who in the military is not a "girl" anymore than a male in the military is a "boy." Sorry, it's just one of my pet peeves.

It's not as if Constitutional Amendments are immune from exceptions. I believe in the 1st Amendment, but it's still illegal to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater.

I'd point out that Syria allows courts to sentence chicks to be stoned to death for adultery. Cultural relativism is a double-edged sword.

Erm, I was being tongue-in-cheek. I'd say to read page 2 of the thread but you're honestly not missing much.

Well, there's a difference between intelligently taking things from other countries and grabbing random examples. I don't think many people around these parts are holding up Syria as a great example of a legal system but Israel's military is usually well regarded.

Psh, reading is for noobs.

To clarify, I don't think that women (or gays, for that matter) should be barred from serving in the military, even on the front line, so long as they can meet all of the same qualifications that men must meet. Lowering standards to allow more women to make the cut is what I have a problem with.

Also, for funsies: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_the_military_by_country

1 odd thing about this one from personal experience. When I was stationed in Germany I worked with a group of Israeli soldiers for a week doing presentations on out training area and during conversation the subject of women in the Infantry came up and I rmemeber one of them telling us they tried it and it didn't work.

The reason they said it didn't work had nothing to do with the women, but the men. They said then when a male Soldier was wounded 1 Soldier would would attempt to help them until the medics could take over. When a female Soldier was wounded several Soldiers ( male ) would attempt to help. Loosing several members of you fighting force isn't a good idea. He suggested that it was instinct of the male Soldiers trying to protect the female.

I have know guys who we not suited to serve in the Infantry and some gals who were.

I think if someone wants to serve their country let them. Once your in you not male, female, gay, or straight, your a Soldier. Like I said on page 1 there will be some logistical issues to deal with, but no more that when we desegregated the service or when woman first started to take over a lot of male dominated jobs in the service.

Yeah, last thing you want is some chick trying to stuff wounded soldiers into recycling bins.

Why not? We can wheel them out of the way easier that way.

Not all military units are coed.

Having been in the Infantry, it was all men in my unit.

As for the rest of it, I served 10 years, I had a couple of guys that were gay in various units I was in. For the most part, the others just ignore it. Actually, last time I was in Iraq we had a gay guy, you know how much people cared? None. As long as he pulled his weight, and trigger, it was irrelevant.

People forget that the military is made of of members of society. A lot of people in regular society don't care, so in turn not a lot of the military cares.

Not all military members are raging redneck homophobes. But of course people look for the minority and use it to stir the pot.

The only time an issue arises is when someone very flamboyant wants to serve openly. This isn't your personal pedestal, we have more important sh*t to worry about than you using the unit as your own personal little vendetta against society and/or the military.

What it all comes down to for gays in the military is the EXACT same thing it comes down to for hetero members, and to quote an old platoon sergeant of mine:

"Shut the @#%^ up and do your job, no one gives a sh*t about the rest."

Thanks...

I've seen my fair share of homosexuals in my short 4 years in. No body cares or care enough to do anything.

Heterosexuals are DENIED the right to public showers because they can't shower with their significant others in a public shower like homosexuals can!!! SCOTUS!
