The problem with your comments, Cat, is that you're comparing the politicians of the Democrats to the radio/TV figures of the Republicans.

To be honest, both groups sound like blithering idiots 90% of the time.

While the US might be overboard, and there is value in parties working together and compromising, there is value in having an opposition who's primary job is to oppose and to bring to light problems. Having all the parties just working together all the time is imo not actually very healthy. It's why we have the official opposition in Canada.
There's an opposition here too of course.
And I don't think our system is much better or worse than the American system, just different.
Both systems have their flaws and stupidity.

Er, Drill Baby Drill was the motto of the McCain/Palin campaign . . .

'Death panels' was coined by one Michelle Bachmann, R-Minnesota.

Those three aren't exactly merely TV/Radio personalities. (Palin is now, but at the time she was the candidate for veep.) However, their rhetoric is quickly picked up and repeated by the echo chamber, which is why they get associated with the right wing media.

Ok. But where any of those statements made during the Kagan hearings? If not, then what is the relevance to mentioning them?

As someone else pointed out, both sides engage in rhetoric. It's an unfortunate fact of politics that rhetoric influences the public more than rational reasoned debate. We could just as easily (and just as irrelevantly) talk about how any talk of reducing the tax burden gets turned into a a diatribe about the rich stealing from the poor. And anytime the right opposes spending they're greeted with a chorus of claims about us wanting to starve poor people, and make grandma die in a shack somewhere. And concerns about the constitutionality of forcing people to buy health care is met with angry claims that we're just being greedy and not willing to help sick people.

There's plenty of rhetoric to go around. It's a bit misleading to list off only the stuff coming from one side.

Pfftt... if you're trying to win an argument, you need to show examples of false claims from the Democrats.

So does Cat. That was the point.

Erm.... Woooosh?

Nice job on playing the "We only do it 'cause you do it!" card though. You wouldn't be you if you didn't have an excuse for everything.

Er? I'm playing the "all politicians do it cause it tends to work" card Joph.

Republicans will argue that their claims about the wrongness of Dem policies are just as true as Dems will argue about their claims about GOP polices. Which makes your earlier post kinda pointless. You might as well have just replied with "I'm a democrat!"

I also believe that sticking a hot poker in your eye is "bad". What's your point?

Even a blind squirrel knows not to put a hot poker in his eye?
