I'll be patiently waiting as it seems that you and maybe 2 others are the only ones actually following the case. I wonder what effects, if any, will this have on the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy. The government sent out emails to military personnel asking for feedback. I'm glad that they at least made an attempt to hear our opinions...

They don't care what you think dude, they just care that you follow orders.

We remain committed to providing Soldiers with an opportunity to express their thoughts and views regarding a possible repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Therefore, beginning Sept. 2 and continuing through Sept. 30, all Soldiers can provide their comments and opinions by way of an online inbox hosted on Army Knowledge Online (AKO).

We believe your thoughts and opinions are important. That’s why we have decided to establish this online inbox exclusively for our Soldiers and Families. The inbox is an Army initiative that will supplement the related Defense Department-level survey and online inbox efforts.

We ask that you visit AKO and make your opinions known. Your opinion is valuable and we want to hear what you have to say. Your views are important in helping us understand the impact of potential repeal.

We are the best Army in the world because of you – our Soldiers. Thank you for your service and your participation in the online inbox.

That's a whole lot of effort for not caring. They could have easily done nothing as no one expected our opinions to be heard. But, you could very well be right. I'm thinking that the military wants to uphold it and is using our opinions (under the assumption that we also agree) as a fighting point. Either way, we at least get to say something on the issue.

WTF are you talking about? If you could get on AKO, which you can't, you'll see the effort that I'm referring to. I simply cut/paste the email referencing that effort...

Edit: You actually think the government uses hotmail/yahoo/etc. accounts to disperse information? Really?

You do realize that your thoughts don't matter, right? If its repealed its repealed & you will either follow orders & work with the now out of the closet gays, or you'll GTFO.

Gen. George Casey is Varus's go-to guy for reasons that DADT shouldn't be repealed. I wouldn't be surprised if he's only organized that email blast in the hopes that his guess that a lot of people in the military are against repealing DADT is confirmed. I remember seeing something a while ago about that very email and I thought there was some warning about it, but I can't remember off hand what it was now.

No, but I mistakenly thought you'd be smart enough to pick up on intentional flippancy. So I guess I was wrong about something this morning but it wasn't Hotmail accounts.

With that said, opening an "inbox" for "opinions" is hardly a whole lot of effort. Your local gas station has an "opinion box" in the employee break room. If you're referring to effort no one else can see then it's not exactly compelling to say "See this email! Lots of effort! Trust me!"

Not to sound cruel, but I really don't know why it matters what the soldiers and their families (their families, seriously??) opinions on this are. Was there a suggestion box when they decided to allow African Americans to serve? When they allowed women to enlist? Why is this such a big deal?

Where did I say it did? I said at least the government made an attempt to hear our opinions.. You're just trying to make an argument out of nothing. I even further said that they are probably just using that poll to support their opinion against the removal of the policy.

Well once you stop comparing a sexuality with your sex or skin color, you'll realize the difference in the three scenarios. Homosexuals are allowed to serve the military, they just can't be open about it. Unfair? Guess what, you also can't participate in Oral/**** sex with your own spouse in your own bedroom. You can do it all day long, you just can't tell anybody or you can get the same punishment as a homosexual.

I've yet hear anyone complaining about the other sexual restrictions in the military. They all fall under the "Don't ask Don't Tell" concept but for some reason only homosexuality is mentioned. IMO, this isn't about tolerating homosexuality, but a push for society to accept homosexuality.

I was unaware of that rule (I'm assuming for sake of argument that it's true) and think it's a completely stupid rule without any particular merit to uphold.

So there ya go.
