Traditional marriage destroyed!

*checks her marriage, which seems to be still intact*

Or not.

Score one for equality, and liberty and justice for all.

Um... Was anyone unsure what the outcome of the case at this level in this court would be? Really? It's meaningless. Wait! Let me make a prediction for you... It'll be appealed to the 9th and... gasp... they'll rule it unconstitutional as well! And it'll be just as surprising when that happens (ie: not).

Wake me up when it gets to the US Supreme Court. That's really the only court decision that's going to matter.

If gays shouldn't be allowed to marry then may California fall into the ocean.

I should be eloquent and rational about this, but I'm too busy doing the "In your face!!!" dance of victory.

A judge in what is likely the most liberal district in the country? It's the equivalent of walking into a fundie church and finding someone who'll say that creationism should be taught in schools. Like I said: Meaningless.

Sure, but one of the lawyers arguing for Prop 8 to be overturned is pretty conservative, so there's that.

gbaji, you should be in Hillcrest (the "gay" section in San Diego for you non-locals) right now. The revelry is spilling out onto the streets, from what I understand.

Maybe I misread the link, or you know more details about the specific judge, but he's mentioned as being a conservative judge appointed by Bush.

A blind monkey could have tried this case and gotten the same result. Anyone could have won it. You could have literally stood up and said "I don't believe a single word of this petition, but here is it" and closed the case and still won. Let's not pull a muscle patting ourselves on the back here...

"Ourselves...?"

Regardless of Debbie Downer over here, it's still a legal victory. Yes, I think a blind monkey should've been able to win this case. Mostly because it seems ******* common sense to me to allow all adult citizens of this country to marry any other consenting adult, regardless of their sex.

I'm sorry you're sad that your side didn't win, gbaji. But it's nice to see equality upheld.

Most non religious based conservatives would support gay marriage. Some of them would argue that special rules for married couples, tax breaks, shared benefits etc, should be removed across the board, but Gbaji's position is somewhat rare. The idea that government has a role in encouraging people into certain social situations should be anathema to libertarians.

He was appointed by HW Bush, with a Democrat controlled congress. When will people stop assuming that judges are automatically conservative or liberal based on which executive appointed them?

There's also a whole host of politics involved which would increase the likelihood of any judge, liberal or conservative, to find this way as well.

Well he was stated as specifically being conservative, so that's probably why people concluded that.

There, bolded it for you this time, since you clearly missed it both in the article and in my response.
