I was on the phone with one of my cousins and she asks me "Hey, do you remember <name>?" I'll use the name Theo. I remember Theo, being a wannabe thug who used to hang out with another guy guy that my cousin was dating through high school. I would run into Theo every so often around San Diego and he was always acting like some hard *** gangster from Compton. I ran into him a few months after I graduated from college and he seemed to have turned his life around. Finished up school, got a serious girlfriend that he eventually married and had a kid with later.

Turns out he straightened up because he killed a guy during a car robbery back in 1995 and got away with it until now. Scared himself straight, from what it looks like. He was with other people that somehow the police were able to get a lead on and then once everyone started talking, he was found to be the shooter. He plead guilty to avoid a death penalty prosecution and was sentence to life in prison just about 2 months ago. The other guys he was with were all sentenced from 6-15 years in prison.

He had a reputation of stealing and joyriding cars, which is why neither my cousins or I would associate with him (he was a reason why my cousin and the guy she was dating broke up because she didn't want to deal with Theo). I feel pretty bad for his wife and child though. I'm assuming that they had no idea of what he did and their world is now turned upside down.

Life can really be a ******* at times.

I always knew Theophany was a no-good rapscallion.

And not just because he's a Red Wings fan. Smiley: mad

That was my first thought too. Although I didn't know Theo was married.

This is the 3rd one now. Smiley: frown

I knew Scott Peterson fairly well and posted after his conviction and death sentencing.

Another high school friend was convicted for manslaughter instead of 2nd degree murder.

And now this guy.

A few people I knew from high school are now in jail for robbery and I think one got in trouble for child molestation (he attacked one of his neighbors as she was jumping on a trampoline in her back yard). Now, by "knew" them... they went to my high school or rode the bus with me when I was in elementary school. Most of them I didn't know personally and didn't associate with outside of the few classes we may have had together.

Years ago, when we lived at NAS Lemoore, My ex's best friend was John Steelmen. He live across the street from us, when he and his wife Nancy, got into a heated argument and she told him that the baby she was carrying was someone else's. She then ran to get his gun and pointed at him. That's when she made the mistake of not pulling the trigger and he choked her to death.

He told all the neighbors that Nancy had gone to her mom's in Chicago and asked me to babysit there one year old. Few days later, the squadron went out at sea for a week and at the time I wasn't supposed to be alone due to postpartum depression, so he let me sleep in their son's bedroom. He body was hidden in their garage and only when the smell got too strong to hide, and he put her remains in 2 trash bags and toss them into the Kings River, was he caught.

Nancy had what we call a poisonous personality, so I can I was somewhat happy to heard she had gone home to her mom's and yet not surprised either when the NIS came to our door and asked if I knew where she was. My ex had to testify at his trial, a year later and since it was his job as the Personal man for the squadron to handle getting his property to him, we needed up with a few of their household items he could deliver to the jail.

By the time Thumb, move on the base, the story had taken on urban myth proportions and she was surprise to learn otherwise. Last word we had, was that Steelmen died in Jail, their son was raise by Nancy's sister.

The first time that Elne told me this I was like "Whoa, so this is the story behind that urban myth?" The story I heard was that he killed her and hid her body in the walls and then in a refrigerator and then cut her body up, etc. Crazy.

But Lemoore will do that to ya.
