Every once in awhile, if I find myself on the west side of I5 and need to get home during rush hour, I'll avoid getting on the freeway and just head north along the Torry Pines reserve. It's not a great picture, but
this shows how the road comes down from one side of a hill from La Jolla (UCSD area), runs about a half mile between the beach and the wetlands, then turns back in (over the coaster tracks) and up another hill into the Del Mar area. It's one lane each way at the bottom, so you still get traffic, but in the afternoon, you get
this view. Not a bad spot to be stuck in traffic...
