He's still cleaning the blinds. Once he's done with that, I'm sending himoutside to pull weeds. By hand. And we have neglected our yard for the last few weeks. He's going to be weeding, sweeping, trimming. It's going to be great.

I would make him cut the grass with nothing but a pair of scissors and a ruler. There is also cleaning the bathroom with a toothbrush (not the toilet though, he might start there if you allow that and then move on to other parts of the bathroom with a poobrush). I am sure I am forgetting things, if I remember I will edit and all that.

Washing windows (inside and out), painting (deck, garage, etc.), weeding, mulching, and edging.

All terribly drudgerous things a 14-year-old can do fairly safely.

The worst part of chores is starting them, regardless of what chore. Once I'm busy and got some music playing I don't mind it anymore.
That said bathrooms and toilets are no fun to do, I'm pretty sure it's one of the worst chores you can give a 14 year old.

And I am wondering what it is he did that got him in this much trouble.

He took off without checking in with us and left his younger sister at home without telling her anything. She called me in a panic because all of a sudden she was alone in the house and had no clue where her brother went. Then when he got home, he kicked her hamster's cage after she told him that she told me he left.

I told him I'm going to make him so tired and keep him so busy that he won't be able to do anything else except fall asleep at the end of this week.

Make him dust and vacuum his sister's room. And wash her windows.

I was going to do that, but she insists that she doesn't want him in her room after the hamster incident. I'm waiting for her to put tape on the carpet and insist that he can't cross over the line into her room.

Oh I know this one.

1. Cleaning the lobsters out of your butler's **********
2. Plucking and gutting all the pheasants
3. Clean the stables
4. Re-thatch the roof

That'll teach the ungrateful little bastage.

The bath tub. I hate hate hate cleaning the bath tub. I don't mind doing toilets or sinks, even floors and windows but a bath tub... gahhh.

I don't know why I hate it so much but I'm very happy they have those after shower sprays that make it so you don't have to do it as often. I'm religious with that stuff.

Yeah, just as well. In retrospect, that's more likely to make him resentful towards her rather than towards you.

Still amused me though.

Going with the weeding. It's thankless, miserable work.

Cleaning toilets, vacuuming, mopping floors, cleaning the kitchen. They all suck. Thats why we pay for a cleaner to come and do it.

Personally, doing dishes by hand is what I hate most.

For punishment, give him a metal tub and make him wash all the clothes with a washboard.

Weeds suck, same with cleaning out around the toilet and beside the sink. The hair with sisters is just horrible to clean up. Toilet's no problem, cleaning the kitchen floor by hand with a mother with an eye for detail wasn't easy though.

I'm actually in the process of weeding my own yard. it's pretty bad - almost completely overgrown with the stuff. After mowing, they leave these tough, bristly little reddish-green stems that makes the yard look pretty dead. So I've gotten Thom out there to help me pull them out - until he gets distracted with digging up worms and centipedes.

Put in an outdoor retaining wall / patio / barbique pit / etc. The decorative bricks aren't that bad pricewise, but the damn things are heavy. that or get some bark dust and or soil delivered and make him haul that around.

I saw him in London, for a BBC live recording, a month ago. He played that song, too. I'd never heard him before, but he was really good. Loudon Wainwright and Suzanne Vega were there too. It was a really cool couple of hours...

You could have him dust, then find a spot he missed(just inside decorative vases, for instance) and make him redust everything. Repeat until you can no longer find obscure spots he missed dusting.

I'd say toilets, and tubs, with a tiny scrubby. Also dishes by hand, no gloves!

A couple other things that are gross are the oven, inside and under. Cleaning inside and under other appliances as well, like the clothes washer and refrigerator.

And lastly, one thing that boys hate, folding girls under clothes.Smiley: sly

I'm guessing some boys would find this quite tantalizing.
