Now that I think about it, a trip away from the husband AND the kids would be a nice thing.

My wife and I have made quite a few trips to WDW and we've stayed both on-site and off-site. For on-site Value Resorts, we love Pop Century. The buses come around often, there are some great themed pools and the food is pretty good, considering it is cafeteria style. We stay on-site whenever possible. For the times we stay off-site, we love staying at the Best Western Lakeside. It's about one mile from the main gate. It's got multiple pools, it's right next door to a Walgreens and there's a Ponderosa down the street that serves a buffet style $3.50 breakfast. We used Hotwire to book here and got $28 a night for a rate. The biggest drawback to the place is the shuttle however. They do have one, but it's erratic and usually makes its last trip back to the hotel before the parks close. This means that you'll likely miss the fireworks. We had our own car so this didn't matter to us. I'd suggest using hotwire to rent a car using the cash you saved booking the hotel! One other minor drawback to the place is that there's a serious timeshare pitch right at the check-in, but I can't see anyone who inhabits the Asylum being stopped long by them. We were skeptical when we saw that it was a Best Western, but it turned out to be a fantastic stay.

I would recommend against using Hotwire. You have no idea what craptastic ******** you could end up in. Use it for the car rental if you want, as almost all car rental agencies use new cars, so you're relatively safe. But Hotwire with hotels? That's a gamble.

It's a bit of a gamble, but if you do your research, you can pretty much narrow down which hotel it's going to be before you actually pay. I assume that the majority of you do have research skills, which is why I suggested hotwire.

Honestly, the hotel is the thing I don't really care too much about. As long as it's clean, that's enough for me. When I'm on vacation, it's not to sit around in the hotel. If I can shave money off of the hotel budget, I can use that money for other, more interesting things.

I'm no help, since the idea of Florida and Disney combined is enough to break me out in hives

I'll be relating to this sentiment in Vegas next April. Hide your money and women. I'd ask for advice where to stay, but the irony would escape a lot of you morons.

Ugh, there is nothing about Vegas I don't hate. I guess April is a relatively decent time to go, though.

You mean you don't like the **** card flickers? The people who stand on every street corner and flick those cards with strip club info to try and get your attention? One of the highlights of Vegas! How can one not like that?

Ghost towns. Roadside attractions. The occasional county fair.

I hate huge crowds and glitz. HATE. Smiley: mad

That, I can agree with you on. Which is why I like vacationing at times when most others aren't. Right after Christmas and the first 2 weeks of school are usually the best.

There are seriously a lot of Smiley: mad in this thread.

I love Vegas. Seriously love that town. I love the slots, love the tables, love the shows, love everything about that town.

Except the weather.
