Rammstein puts on a HELL of a show. It's quite disturbing. Enjoy that one.

I'm still convinced that Duval (the new singer) is channeling a little Lane inside him like a specter but give us an update when you see them. I'd like to know what's he's like live.

And good ****** luck on Maiden. I've seen two shows this year and they were vastly different from each other. I guess Bruce wasn't up to his gills in nose powder one of the shows cause one of them sucked.

Bolded are bands I'd like to see, although I wouldn't pay for a festival ticket for those bands.
So where is it you're going?

If there's a metal crowd they're not unlikely to be bottled off the stage.

I've seen them twice live. Duvall is the real deal. If he wants to, he can do a near-perfect Layne impression, which he really puts on for certain songs (Them Bones stands out, for example). His more natural voice fits the band just fine though, and it's not a far cry from how Layne sounded, either.

What was he in before...Comes with the Fall? Some of their stuff is pretty decent too, IIRC, and Duvall really owns the vocals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU5sBMTZLsc

Last time I saw AIC was the MMRBQ in Camden. They were literally the loudest thing I've ever heard. It took about 3 days for my ears to stop ringing.

Looks like a great line-up, besides the aforementioned oddities like Good Charlotte.

Also, I saw Papa Roach way back in 2001 right after their first album blew up, and I was hugely disappointed with their live performance.

Take pictures!

Smiley: thumbsup

I've seen Slayer and Iron Maiden play many, many times. They're both great live. I think the Cult is one of the best rock bands ever, but have never seen them live.

Living with half a metal band who practiced at our place twice a week gave me no more appreciation for the genre.

Don't get me wrong, I admire musicians and love watching them bang on their particular instruments of choice.

I used to go to the Reading festivals back in the early 80's and saw a heap o' good bands there. Iron Maiden on acid was a fun one. Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden, Ozzie and Motorhead were all great shows. Another highlight ws throwing a bottle of **** at Status Quo and splashing both Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi with it as it spun across the stage.

Goodtimes.

Protip : Get as close to the front as you can for Alice Cooper. A lot of his show used to be very visual and seeing it up close was better than standing at teh back wondering why everyone was cheering so much.

The opposite for Status Quo obviously.

OK verdict on the weekend as a whole: pretty bloody good, short a little something extra that last years Download had but pretty outstanding all the same!

Day one: Couple of slightly bazaar opening acts in Delain and Turisas (Dutch symphonic metal and Finish battle metal respectively) "Hey you crazy English guy you're going to love our Heavy metal Accordian, for sure!"

Scandinavians are just a little bit mad....

Europe was a little bit flat but worth if for "the final countdown", Alice Cooper was pretty awesome if rather staged but the dude can still put on a performance, Marylin Manson take note please. I missed Terrorvision because they where in a side tent and it was impossible to even get near it so i went and drank some beer instead.

Day two: Pitched up early for Lacuna Coil, happily this year they sorted out Christina's vocals before the start and they rocked, i'm a big fan, so i'm slightly biased. I then stayed in the middle of the stages for the next few acts (the ammount of gushing Dio tributes was quite heartwarming) before floating back up to the mainstage for what turned out to be the best perfomance of the weekend by Papa Roach who were on fire and tore up the audience from start to finish.

They sadly where followed on the second stage by Heavy metal cello ( Apocolyptica ) who bluntly sucked and fell completely flat on their faces, complete waste of a set imo. Good charlotte where awesome and totally fit in the weekend giving a nice light set in amoungst the more rawcus Anthrax and Slayer Thrash Metal. Placebo and Motley Crue where workmanlike rather than brilliant which lead to the headliners

Rammstien: I've never seen 40,000+ Brit cheer so loudly for a german flag before but the pyrotechnical heavy metal masterclass that followed was magnificent, from the flame throwers and fireworks to the keyboardist jumping in an inflatable to crowdsurf is was an 90 minute blast, the renditiion of Du Hast being the single best live performance of a song I have ever seen.

Day 3: Sunday saw fine performances from Alice in Chains and Pendulum on teh main stage and moments of magic from The Cult (She sells Sanctuary's opening bars gaining the best reaction of the weekend) and Iggy Pop (who pulled 10 people from teh crowd to dance along to a couple of songs before the headline act.

Iron Maiden: Heavy metals royalty showed exactly why they are considered one of teh best live acts in the world, my only coomplaint is they played far too much recent stuff and not enough classics, No Run to the hills, no Can I play with madness, no Aces high. but still a great set, of the really big bands only Def Leppard have really justified the hype for me before this.

All in all a great weekend,

Sorry Df had I actually read the thread after I posted it I would have got you a t-shirt.

This post was brought to you by the ghost of Gbaji and the Letter B.

Generally pretty good, Thumb thanks for asking, much happier now and already getting on much better with the soon to be ex-wife.

Think we are both agreed now that it was the right thing to do.

Hope to be in the New flat in the next 3-4 weeks
