So the US Gub'mint is asking a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) to attend an inquiry into Smiley: tinfoilhat conspiracy theories that the release of the (almost certainly innocent) Mr Al-Megrahi was a result of a BP oil deal with Libya.

Now when I last looked, Scottish MSPs are elected by Scottish voters, not US Citizens.

Obama is clutching at straws in implying that the Gulf Leak is a British problem, (despite the root cause being Cheney's Halliburton cowboys), when BP is a global, multinational conglomerate formed from a merger between British Petroleum & AMOCO.

So if USA can subpoena MSPs about Libya and BP, can UK subpoena Dubya and Rumsfeld about the illegal detention of UK Citizens at Camp X-Ray in Guantanamo Bay?

It stems from the same misguided sense of entitlement that leads our colonial cousins in the US to believe that they know whats best for the rest of us. Wether we like it or not.

Bless 'em.

Anyone can ask for a subpoena. Enforcing it is something else again.

My only request is that you stop exporting your bullshIt. You can do whatever you like in your own country as far as I'm concerned.

You know, ordinarily I'm pretty sympathetic to the position that the U.S. shouldn't interfere with sovereign governments, etc. etc.

However, the point remains that we couldn't export our ******** if there weren't a viable ******** market out there. You're as culpable as I am, and a good deal more self-deluded about it.

F*ck you british b*tches. I can't tell you how happy this makes me. Who knows maybe Obama will become obsessed with going after BP long enough for the GOP to get control of congress and put a stop to this madness.

In the meantime I'm thrilled that Obama's causing you people as much grief as he is over here.

Granted, Nobby's righteous outrage fizzled out of the box but after spending a moment or two looking, I can't find mention of any subpoenas being issued. A couple Scottish officials were asked to come but they were never issued subpoenas (i.e. compelled to testify or else face legal consequences).
ABC News wrote:
Top Scottish officials have declined an invitation to appear before a Senate panel investigating allegations of fraud and corporate pressure that may have led to the release of convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdulbaset al Megrahi, ABC News has learned.

In a letter sent yesterday, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry, D-Mass., formally invited Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond and Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill to appear before a July 29 hearing on the topic, chaired by New Jersey Democrat Robert Menendez.

Don't you guys have some bad Obama gifts to cry about or something? You're still welcome to Bush & Cheney though. you can even issue real subpoenas.

I thought that was already a foregone conclusion? You not quite as certain that the Dems will lose power now?

Debo,

Death and taxes are the only certain things in life.

All signs point to a rough year for the Democrats. A horrible economy is never a good thing for incumbents.
