I realize that you folks from the other 49 (and points beyond) don't much care but a judge has decided that Senator Burris's (the guy Blagojevich appointed to fill Obama's old seat) appointment term should end in November with a special election to fill the remainder. As in the remaining 6-odd weeks. Since there's no time for a primary, the parties are allowed to nominate their own candidates for the ballot and both are expected to nominate their respective senatorial candidates for the general. You need to vote for the guy for the six week term and vote again for who to fill the regular six year term.
Which means that not only do I not want to vote for either guy, but now I'm expected to vote for him twice!* Lord, almighty...
*There's an obvious Chicago joke in there. Go for it.
