Good game. Nethack & Dungeoncrawl are good games in that style too.

Also, if you like Sid Meier's Civilization, you should play Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.

Yup. It had some of it's own unique elements, but a lot of the gameplay components essentially got ported into civIII and then later refined into civIV. It's pretty easy to shift from one to the other. I've been a big fan of that whole line of games.
