So I guess you couldn't find anyone with half the qualifications ready to put their reputation on the line by supporting the man made global warming myth.

Of course I could. I could start Googling bios of people working for NASA or NOAA or whoever and turn someone up without much work.

Why? If I do so, will you change your opinion about anything?

Academic debates have never caused anyone to change their views; they are only a method for those involved to become further entrenched in their own disparate ideas.

That's not really true, though, is it?

I don't know; it's actually a line from a book that occurred to me when I saw Joph's post. In the book, it was in reference to an in-fighting English department of an obscure state college.

Obfuscation will get you everywhere, just look at Obama.

The simple fact is you won't find anyone more qualified than this guy and even he doesn't believe what you're selling.

You didn't answer my question. If I find someone equally qualified who thinks ACC is real, will you change your opinion?

I just want to know how many times you had to ctrl+tab back to dictionary.com before you spelled that right.

My guess is three times, after looking up the definition of course.

Debo,

Are you trying to sound intelligent? It doesn't suit you.

Moe,

And looking up the correct spelling of a word someone might not know makes them less intelligent? Are you really saying this?

Go back to comparing a couple of angry blacks standing in front of a voting center to an official shooting a man in the back while he's running away.

Nope. I don't think you know how to tie your shoes. You are less intelligent and many things are indicative of that. But looking something up doesn't make you less intelligent.

Case in point. I wasn't aware the kid was running away.

I find that 100% believable. I stopped wearing kangaroos when I was 4 though, so you might not want to brag.

He wasn't. He was on the ground.

I'm not sure why BART "police" have guns, anyway. They're not part of the city police force.

When you take away the BART's guns, only unarmed men lying on a subway platform will have guns.

He wasn't. He was on the ground.

Not only was he lying on the ground, the story I read had another officer kneeling on his back.

Yeah. I'm not sure why Mehserle felt the need to Tase him, even. But I wasn't there.

Looking at this Mehserle case and the recent Seattle cop incident, I have to say I'd hate being a cop in this day and age (not that I ever wanted to be one in the first place).

It's bad enough what they have to face on a daily basis, but now dealing with people while a bevy of onlookers watch with their camera phones out? I like the aspect of this being a way for citizens to possibly curtail abuse of power or corruption by the police force, but I don't think the cops needs this kind of additional stress on their jobs.

Yeah, God forbid anyone hold cops accountable for misbehavior.

You think it's OK to always have cameras in a cop's face as they do their job? Would you like that?

Yes. At all times.

And more than a few States agree which is why so many patrol cars have cameras in them.

I can sympathize somewhat. While a later investigation may prove an officer acted appropriately, the clipped up million hit YouTube video of a cop "beating up an innocent skateboarder" or whatever only serves as a distraction and puts additional stress on what's already a very stressful job.

I have no idea where the middle ground is though nor any Pollyanna hopes that it'd be respected by those with an agenda.

Wake up, Sparky. You pretty much do always have a camera in your face.

I think if your job entails carrying firearms and arresting people, then sure, some randomized oversight of potential abuse is probably not a bad thing.

This is all I was saying.

And the scrutiny by people during an already tense situation may actually escalate matters, rather than necessarily facilitate everyone to be on their best behavior.

Which question? No one likes constant scrutiny, except possibly Lindsay Lohan. I answered the first question, I think.

It's not about liking it, nitwit. We submit to things we don't like every day because it's necessary. If I were a cop I'd sure as hell expect there to be cameras watching me, particularly as those people have every right to record the incident. Yeah, it sucks when you get some Youtube clip taken out of context. That's no reason to remove that layer of oversight though.
